I thought Cromardie was going to down it in the end zone to conserve time, but taking it out turned out to be a great decision. The Jets squeaked that one out and aren't going anywhere next week.

I love seeing the Colts lose.

Yeah so do I. Their fans just look so [expletive] obnoxious at their stadium. Plus I despise Peyton Manning. This weekend is going well so far.

It would be a little funny if the Seahawks were the only home team that won this weekend. Edited by bukie

Why did Indy call a TO there?

Because Caldwell has no idea how to work the clock. That's the second loss this season he's contributed to with a bad timeout call.

Oh well. The Colts were probably going to struggle considerably against Pittsburgh anyway. The problems the backups were having were showing up all over the field tonight. Still an interesting season.

Caldwell paraphrased on why he used the timeout "They were in field goal range. We were going to make them snap the ball as many times as possible. We weren't going to let them just run it all the way down"

yeah except weren't they at a point of the field (after the tomlinson run) where it still would have been close to a 50 yard kick? i'd rather let the clock run down than call time out and give the jets a chance to talk it over on the sideline and set up their next play.

So would I (and it would have been in the 48-50 range). Folk hasn't been great beyond 40 this year so I would have taken my chances with him. Caldwell almost got really lucky though because Edwards could easily have been called for offensive pass interference on the final play from scrimmage. I'm not surprised that wasn't called in that situation though.

Yeah, what a horrible decision. A couple more like that (I'm pretty sure CCP was referencing the first Jacksonville game at least in terms of management of timeouts), and he should be put in the Andy Reid/Mike McCarthy group of coaches with horrible clock management skills.

There's absolutely no reason to call a timeout there.

I can't figure out what's worse about the result of the Colts-Jets game.

-The fact that the New York media is likely to suck off Sanchez for winning this game even though he stunk for much of the night.

-The fact that I'm going to have to root for the [expletive] Patriots next week. God I hope the Pats win by 40 again.

You never have to root for anyone. Just enjoy football. :)

Its not like either outcome influences anything for your team in the short or long term. I used to be upset by the absurd amount of love Sanchez gets for being what is pretty much a below average quarterback, but now I kinda enjoy it as some absurd Kafkaesque nightmare world where nothing makes any sense, and Brett Favre plays for the next 20 years.

Caldwell is terrible and shouldn't be a head coach in the NFL. Two games he's called a completely indefensible timeout. He's utterly clueless.

Oh well, whatever. They weren't going to do much this year anyway, I guess.

seems like mos there hate seeing the colts win. i hate seeing the jets win. i used to like rex ryan and his whole gimmick, but at a certain point i became sick of him and started hating him. then the foot thing came out and now im just creeped out by him... and his teeth.

Any chance the Colts have a new coach next year?

Last five Super Bowl champions have either missed the playoffs (both Steelers teams) or failed to win a playoff game (07 Colts, 08 Giants, 10 Saints).

Also, the five playoff teams since 1978 with the worst regular season point differential (led by the 2010 Seahawks) all won their wild card game.

Eight pages since the games started and hardly any mention of how horrible Hammond and Mayock were? You guys are slacking...

My personal favorite was when the Saints ran in a touchdown and Hammond said, "No signal yet." NBC then flashed the TD graphic and showed the scoring drive. As the special teams units were coming out on the field, Hammond finally said, "And apparently they ruled it a touchdown." Not sure how Notre Dame fans put up with that [expletive] on a weekly basis during the college season.

Edit: Here's a condensed version of the call. You can hear the good part of it though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxU8eM_UcPw

Last 5 Super Bowl participants and how they fared the next year

10 Saints - Lost on Wild Card weekend

10 Colts - Lost on Wild Card weekend

09 Steelers - Missed playoffs

09 Cardinals - Lost in Divisional Round (second playoff game)

08 Giants - Lost in Divisional Round (first playoff game)

08 Patriots - Missed playoffs

07 Colts - Lost in Divisional Round (first playoff game)

07 Bears - Missed playoffs

06 Steelers - Missed playoffs

06 Seahawks - Lost in Divisional Round (second playoff game)

So 4 of the 10 didn't make the playoffs, 8 of the 10 didn't win a playoff game the next year (2-6 overall playoff record), and none of them made it to the Conference championship round.

I've said repeatedly he's the single worst sports play by play announcer on national television (network or cable). It really isn't even remotely close. Luckily for NFL fans, they only have to put up with him for 1 game a year.

I was listening to Mike and Mike last week and they said that the NFL has had something like 14 or 15 straight seasons where there have been at least 5 teams worth of turnover in the playoffs. In other words, every season has at least 5 teams that weren't in the playoffs the year before (thus, 5 teams that were in it the previous year but not the current year) for 14 or 15 straight years.
