And the votes are in.

Kickoffs will move up to the 35, touchbacks stay at the 20. Players can only have a 5 yard running start and 2 man wedges are still acceptable.

Replay will now be handled by the booth on any scoring plays but coaches still get to use a third challenge if they win their first two.

A couple other minor rule changes including one I chuckled at-the NFL passed a rule making sure that no one can change to a strange color field.

Are the Bears going to be in trouble for their brown field?

Haha...the NFL fears the smurf turf. That's funny.

I think it's just annoying. I don't blame them for banning it. It won't affect the game, but every time I see Boise State home game highlights I keep thinking "Damn, that's an ugly field."

Teams have worn some terribly ugly uni's, and those haven't been banned. It's just so ridiculously trivial given the stuff the NFL is dealing with.

Owners: We want more money, so we won't let the players play.

Players: We want more money, so we're gonna fight you.

Competition Committee: Hey, we can't ruin our game with an ugly color!

I saw the conference call notes and Boise State's field wasn't specifically mentioned but Eastern Washington's field was. And the difference between that and uniforms is alternate uniforms make money for the NFL while alternate field colors wouldn't.

Aqib Talib is a person of interest in a shooting. He's never going to make it past the league's personal conduct policies, or going to end up like Chris Henry.

I'm not really sure if he was ever in our plans for 2011 and beyond anyway. I think after he was suspended the entire season this past year, that kind of signaled the end of his career in Green Bay.

It's unfortunate that he's an idiot because I think he's a pretty good football player.

Gainesville.com[/url]"]Gainesville Police arrested former standout Gator wide receiver Louis Morris Murphy Jr. early Sunday morning, charging him with possession of a drug without a valid prescription, failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest without violence -- all misdemeanors.

........

Harrison flipped on his lights and ordered Murphy and the passengers to stop. Harrison said Murphy refused to present identification and demanded to know why Harrison stopped him. Harrison said Murphy continued to refuse to show his ID and so Harrison attempted to place him in handcuffs, but, he said, Murphy refused to put his hands behind his back. It took three officers to place the 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound NFL player into custody.

Harrison said Murphy consented to a search of his vehicle, where officers found a “non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra.” Murphy could not provide a prescription for it and allegedly told the officer that he had peeled the label off of the bottle “because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it.”

NFL Network is dropping Matt Millen and considering bringing in Gus Johnson to do Thursday night games.

Mayock replacing Theismann/Millen, which is a great move. Johnson/Mayock would be an excellent team.

If Gus Johnson/Mike Mayock on NFL Network happens, I've probably found my favorite broadcast team of all time. That would be an excellent duo - Mayock's analysis is excellent and Gus makes everything awesome.

Ken Tremendous is ranting about the NFL labor situation on Twitter today.

It's not. Anecdotally, I've heard many people side with owners. RT (@ELB_Brian) But who is actually on the owners' side? Strawman argument

No one's asking you to "shed tears." He's making the (very very very true) point that the owners are better off.

In a labor dispute, siding against players is the same as siding with owners. Which in the NFL's case is: nutty.

People who side with ownership in labor disputes always use the highest-paid labor salary as a club and bludgeon the union with it.

It's a classic move. For the record, according to Forbes, the LOWEST value of an NFL franchise (JAG) is $725 million. DAL = $1.8 billion.

Physicians' careers last longer, on average, than 4 years. And you don't blow out your knee checking blood pressure.

Please, friends, stop comparing the job of an NFL player to that of any other type of person. Apples and oranges. Or, apples and plumbers.

NFL careers are four years long. Only 1700 openings in the entire world. Their contracts are not guaranteed. They get hurt constantly.

And if you want to make such comparisons, fine: feel sorrier for the owner of Home Depot or Microsoft. That makes way more sense.

BTW, the "They assume the risk!" argument is actually an argument that owners, whose assets they are, should pay for their health insurance.
