To be fair, the Bears offense has been much more consistent since the bye.

I don't know about that. They've been more dangerous, but not all that consistent. They scored 7 against New England. Cutler's struggled to get 200 passing yards, and the team has struggled to get 300 total. To be fair, they are always a threat to score, which is something the Bears generally never are. They have won the only 2 real shoot outs they have been in this year, and I'm not saying I have no hope for the playoffs or anything. This team can beat anybody in the league, and that still includes New England.

Like someone pointed out earlier...somewhere...I forget which thread and when....the Bears may not get a ton of yards because with their special teams, they end up with a short field so often. They don't have to put together a lot of long, sustained drives. In fact, Football Outsiders has the Bears offense with the #1 starting field position in the league.

LOS/Dr is average starting field position.

This isn't to say the offense is unbeatable, of course. But NE game aside, they've passed the eyeball test lately.

Short fields are wonderful in so many ways. You are either set up with 1 or 2 first downs for a shot at a FG. Or 1 or 2 first downs away from pinning the other team inside their 20, which helps the defense.

Despite how exciting Hester is returing the ball, I love when teams don't kick to him. I'll take a 30 yard punt out of bounds most times over a chance to return a 45 yard punt. That being said, Hester has been good for a 15 yard return every time he gets a punt recently.

The field position thing plays a part, but that probably just makes them average instead of bottom of the barrel. They've still only scored 22 points per game, in the bottom half of the league. So it's not like they are just getting "unlucky" to only have 50 yard drives instead of 75. The two Minnesota games, Philly and the Jets are the most impressive showings. The rest of the 2nd half games have left something to be desired, and as Cutler has said, they left points on the field.

Sure...but I think it's a fair assessment to say the offense is on an upward trend, but there's definitely a long way to go.

The trouble with the offense's numbers overall is that it's still trying to compensate for a 4-game swing that was historically awful. Beyond that, the offense has actually been above average, especially since the bye week.

Right, but going back to my original point being that I am scared of the pass defense partly because the offense is not currently a consistent force.

The Bears are Gould's missed FG Sunday and a late FG in Detroit (instead of running out the clock) away from being in the top 1/2 of the league in scoring. And that's with having 2 of the worst passing games in league history (Giants/Panthers).

I think the offense is more consistent than it is inconsistent. Other than the 4 games where Cutler had or was shell-shocked from concussion, the Bears offense has averaged nearly 25 points per game. The Pats and Dolphins games are the only poor showings they had of the other 11.

I thought the Buffalo game was very uninspiring.

Regardless of what ifs that can make them upper half, being 18th or 14th doesn't really make a difference when saying they are not yet a consistent force.

I just looked at the stats from the Buffalo game. For whatever reason, I was under the impression that the Bears had a better game than they did. I didn't think they won TOP. I also thought they had about 325 yards. Point taken. That wasn't a particularly strong showing either.

Just got back from state line last night. Wow! Morris Day and the Time, The Commodores, Bears win, came home with $400 more than I started with, went to Aurelio's Pizza in Henderson NV after the Bears game and then Steak n Shake (only one in the west) for lunch yesterday.

I'm in absolute heaven!

Go Bears!

Yeah, I can go to In n Out everyday. I'm not in Las Vegas everyday, or the midwest for that matter. I've been enjoying their steakburgers, fries, chili and shakes for years and years. They finally opened one here in the Southwest and damn straight I'm going to show my appreciation. I just regret not having room for a Frisco Melt in that same sitting.

Oh, and if you ever find yourself separated from Chicagoland, I can assure you that you will seriously miss many things you can simply take for granted because you still live there. Something so simple as a Steak n Shake cup of chili takes on way more meaning. I about fell out of my chair when I bit into that first Aurelio's pizza slice. California has no clue how to make good pizza.

I was pretty happy about 10 years ago when we got our first steak n shake (near my house).

Frisco Melt is still amazing drunk food.

Yeah, that's pretty dumb. Great opportunity to take the points there

They should view it as a playoff game, but you never know. It's more clear-cut for Green Bay, and they have the ability to beat the Bears by a TD.

Per rotoworld, the Bears are also working on extensions for Danieal Manning and Anthony Adams. In addition to yesterday's signings of Toeina and Mannelly.
