Bernstein doesn't seem to acknowledge or realize that 95+% of analysts who try to add "insight" actually take away from the enjoyment of the broadcast because they are idiots. Give me an idiot trying to bring the feel of the game to me over an idiot trying to explain the game to me any day.

Bernstein? Half the people on this board don't get that.

I'll take the emotion over analysis any day too. If I take the emotion out of sports, then frankly there's not much for me to care about. I'd rather do something else with my time than look over stat sheets, or listen to some guy tell me about it.

I don't care. I'm living for the emotion of winning games, and championships. That's what this whole thing is for me. That's why Santo was great.

What Bernstein really doesn't get is how much of a pompous ass he is, and how unappealing his personality is. Just my 2 cents, but the guy is a jerk.

It's hard to bring the feel of the game when you've spaced out for a few at-bats and your formerly awesome PbP guy has decided that riffing off you is better than calling the game.

give me a break. there was never a time when i was seriously lost as to what was going on with the game for "a few at-bats." people have said that about santo quite a bit and it's ridiculous. if pat and ron's "riffing" seriously caused you to lose track as to what was going on with the game, you're not very bright or you're old.

No, you're wrong. I haven't been a fan of Ron in the booth for a while, but never at any point have I been lost as to what was going on in the game no matter what he was rambling about. abuck's right; if you can't follow the game because of their banter then just stop listening to games on the radio. The "formerly awesome" bit just shows how full of [expletive] you are right there. If anything, Pat's professionalism was even more obvious when he'd riff with Ron and still be able to call the game.

Pat was all that was needed to call the game. Ron was never there to inform people about baseball.

The idea that Ron was ruining Pat's call is laughable.

I'm dead right. When they get a coherent PBP blatant fanservice color guy who is aware of the outside world, you'll realize how awesome Hughes really is and thank me. They can pipe in Ron saying "YESSSS!" or "Oh no!" a few times a year when appropriate.

Well now this is just funny. You thought Ron was the PBP guy? No wonder you have no [expletive] clue what you're talking about.

That doesn't preclude me from being right. Without the Williston Herald's editing staff backing me up, this is what happens.

You're not right; you just don't know how to use your ears. Stop trying to watch choppy feeds of TV shows on your computer while listening to the game.

Yeah, it kinda does.

Because he used the wrong term to describe one of the guys? You realize the fact that he mixed up terms doesn't actually necessarily mean that he thought Ron had the play by play duties, right?

He's not listening to the games on the radio. He's sitting up in North Dakota with his crappy internet feed and his grainy TV set, and you know it.

Was just looking back on this thread I made last year when the Cubs were searching for a radio color commentator.

My question: With Moreland working the color for a year-plus now, are you pleased with him on the broadcast? How is he with Pat Hughes? I've heard some discussions more recently about Moreland, especially about his one fill-in inning per game, which usually isn't very good since he does PBP during that time. I don't dislike Moreland as the color, but it is what it is.

I'm interested to see if Kerry Wood takes the seat next to Pat when Moreland's contract is up in a couple years. If not, I'd like to hear Doug Glanville next to Pat. We'll see...

Some people here hate him, but I don't have a problem with him. His PbP inning is boring, but I know what's going on so good for him.

Yeah, Keith is just a guy. Not terribly dissimilar to Bob when he started though, so maybe he can develop more of a rapport with Pat if he sticks around for a few years. And for the life of me I cannot understand why he does an inning of PBP. It's not that I think he's awful at it, it's just that someone said "when Pat takes a break we want Keith doing PBP and Judd as the analyst", and I can't think about that sentence for too long before my brain reboots.

It's in Pat's contract that he gets an inning off per game, and likewise in Keith's contract that he gets to do PBP for that one inning.
