I disagree with this guy's take on the Heath Miller hit. Yes, it should have been flagged under the way things are being called now. But it was bang bang, and not unique in the defenseless receiver thing.

But last night's hit was different. In slo-mo it's clear that McClain launched himself at Miller after the pass was broken up — and in any case, a shot to the chest would have produced the same intended result.

It probably could have and should have been avoided, but I've seen worse examples. The refs should have thrown a flag, but they can't catch them all. There is nothing wrong with fining guys with these hits and trying to step up the effort to prevent them. You cannot expect players to adjust immediately and stop with their head hunting poor tackling technique styles overnight. You are going to have situations where a hit is not called on the field. That doesn't mean you should stop trying to enforce the rule.

One thing about this: we don't live life in slo mo.

Slo mo shows all kinds of things that really aren't representative of how it actually happened. Yes, it clarifies some things, but it distorts others. I feel like sometimes we are taking the slo mo as sacrosanct, and disregarding the live action replay.

Was anyone else driven insane by the constant referring to Pittsburgh's QB as "Ben?" It's annoying enough with "Brett" or "Peyton." You're not friends with these guys use their last name, especially when their first name happens to coincide with somebody else's last name.

I know Bill Simmons doesn't think he deserves that status.

“I definitely think we can play with the best of them. Yeah, we’ve felt like that all year. I don’t think any team has actually beaten us. I think we’re beating ourselves, not so much them beating us, and we definitely need to be able to get over that hump. It’s all on us.”

honestly, how can anyone live in a world such as this?

I think every player has to live in that world.

maybe. but come on, have some shame.

I love this post so much.

I hear Cutler referred to as "Jay" a lot as well.

Not on a national stage, I don't think. I thought of the same thing when I heard Collinsworth and Michaels calling hiim "Ben" time and time again last night.

He's just trying to drum up fan interest for their remaining home games.

All joking aside, if I was a lion player I would probably think that way too considering all the games they were close or leading late and blew.

With Cutler, I've heard it more from the studio guys than from the announcers themselves.

For some reason I can picture Gruden and Jaws saying "Jay" constantly. Actually, Gruden would be saying, "This guy, Jay Cutler".

I'm thinking bhat Deion and Michael Irvin both call him "Jay". Marshall Faulk might too.

Good move. Now that the Broncos are out of the playoffs, you might as well start rebuilding without McDaniels. Too bad they didn't get rid of him before he drafted Tebow.

Yeah, that was a bad hire pretty much right from the beginning.

Did anyone have any idea he would act like this (driving out Cutler, Marshall, spygate Broncos style, and drafting Tebow) beforehand?

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that they viewed him as an aggressive personality, and hoped that would translate into solid leadership. Since he hadn't been a head coach previously and was young, obviously they were taking a risk. Sometimes it pays off, and sometimes it doesn't. This time, it definitely didn't and it was evident there was trouble very shortly after the hire took place.

Please, please, please let Coach Urban Meyer be reunited with Tim.

i can't believe they didn't give him another season to right the ship.

He was probably running out of talented players to chase off.

He apparently uncannily learned only the bad parts of Belichek

Sleepwalking through the early game has worked for the Jets against crappy teams.

Now let's see what happens against a non-crappy team.
