Oklahoma's just about put it away now. Two possession game with just about three minutes remaining.

Or not...

It's almost certain to have two Big 10 teams and two Pac 10 teams in the BCS and yet they are almost certain not to play each other in any of the games.

Why do you think the Rose Bowl will pass on Stanford?

I think that they're forced to take the minor conference team this year if that team is not in the national title game.

They have to take a non-AQ once in this bowl cycle if either the Pac-10 or Big Ten champion plays in the national championship game (but not if a non-AQ also plays in the championship game).

They'd probably be best off taking a #3 TCU considering they might be left with worse options in the next few years, especially if the team they're passing on is one with a smaller fan base.

Everything I'm reading suggests the Rose would be forced to take TCU if they don't make the national title game. The Rose would have had a choice of whether to fulfill their obligation this year or delay it to another year in this cycle if one of the minor conference teams had made the title game and the other one was eligible as an at-large. But in this scenario they'll be forced to pick TCU.

Stanford is going to be lucky that they're likely to automatically qualify because they'll move up to #4 in the BCS. Otherwise they may have had a hard time being selected because the Sugar and Orange would be worried how they would travel across the country. Now one of those two bowls will be forced to take Stanford (or possibly the Fiesta if the Orange decides the Big East champion is actually a better pick than Stanford).

Defense optional in the OU-OSU game.

Great call by Stoops also.

I think that one means more to ND fans than any other win over the last 10 years.

Hard to argue very much - more because of the dearth of big wins in the last 10 years than anything.

That was awesome. The most beautiful butt-ugly football game I've ever seen. I don't know what Bob Diaco did to this bunch after the Tulsa game but I hope he never stops doing it.

he probably got them to play mediocre teams and a pretty good team without its starting quarterback.

or he got the D to give up 1 TD (on 4 tries after the freshman QB fumbled the ball on the 2) in the last 41 possessions of its regular season and destroy 4 and 5-star U$C ball carriers time and time again.

it's certainly in the discussion. beating a top 15 team, getting the bowl monkey off their backs 2 years ago, beating usc on the road with a freshman qb. sure starting to feel good about the direction of the program.

So what's ND's bowl situation now? Are they locked into the Champs Sports, or is there another that's more likely? Will they go to one at all?

So, why isn't Stanford going to the Rose Bowl? I heard talk about this this morning. Didn't say where they would go, but said Wisconsin vs. TCU in the rose. Wisconsin v. Stanford would be a wonderful game.

They will probably get an at-large to the Orange Bowl.

Missouri's going to get dumped in the Insight Bowl. 10-2 and they get [expletive].

So, basically the Orange Bowl gets first choice?

There was some discussion in the previous few pages, the gist of which is that the Rose Bowl may be forced to take TCU as a non-AQ school.

As for Mizzou, there's still a super slim chance they could go as high as the Orange Bowl, but what's more likely is falling down to the Insight Bowl or even worse, the Holiday Bowl against Washington/Arizona State/who knows if the Pac-10 can't get anyone eligible.

So then it appears that just getting the Insight Bowl will require Oklahoma winning the Big 12 championship and Nebraska getting the Orange Bowl.

Fiesta - OU

Orange - Huskers

Cotton - A&M

Alamo - OSU

Insight - Mizzou

But if Nebraska wins:

Cotton - OU or A&M

Alamo - OU or A&M

Insight - OSU

Holiday - Mizzou

Right? That's [expletive].

Nebraska won't go to the Orange if they lose in the Big 12 Championship game. The Big 12 is likely only going to get one BCS team, and that's the conference champ. They won't take the loser. And at-large bid would be down to Okie State or Mizzou, and both are long shots.

So what are we looking at in terms of BCS bowls?

Title: Auburn-Oregon

Rose: Wisconsin-TCU

Orange: VaTech/FSU-

Fiesta: OU/NU-

Sugar:

I assume the Sugar will pick another SEC team, so we're looking at either Arkansas or LSU. Stanford will likely get a spot as the No. 4 in the BCS as will Ohio State (probably over MSU). There's also whatever crappy Big East team gets the bid.

It wouldn't change much if either of the top two lose this weekend. If Oregon goes down, we likely swap TCU and Oregon in the Rose and title game. If Auburn loses, TCU goes to the title game, Auburn takes the LSU/Arkansas spot and South Carolina goes to the Sugar with Stanford going to the Rose.

Yeah, it looks like the Pac-10 will get two with Stanford finishing in the top-4, the SEC will get two because it's the SEC and the Big 10 will get two in Wisconsin (conf. champ) and Ohio State. That leaves the Big 12, ACC and Big East with one each.

is it b/c your school sucks so much that you're so offended by the ND no-bowl last year?

ND is likely to go to Champs Sports. They aren't locked into any, but that's probably the best offer they'll get and they'll take it.
