What's our chances of getting a 1 or 2 seed?

According to predictive statistics:

Hollinger's Playoff Odds: Head 60-22, Celtics 58-24, Bulls 57-25, Magic 53-29

BBP's POW ratings: Celtics 58-24 (58.4), Heat 58-24 (58.1), Bulls 57-25 (56.7), Magic 54-28 (54.2)

Personally, I see the Bulls finishing with 56-57 wins, so then getting a 1 or 2 seed hinges on one of the other two teams coasting to the finish a bit. I don't think the Celtics are too concerned about seeding, as they won last year as a 4, and all of the top 4 in the East is clearly a step above.

Blah, I hope they don't settle for an 18-10 finish. I know the schedule is harder but we are 10-2 against +500 teams since Dec 3rd. It is possible though, its hard to play .700 ball all year long.

The Case Against Derrick Rose

The funniest part of this article is that it was published the day before the Spurs game.

I'm not even sure what he's trying to say. He says Rose is on a hot streak, rather than developing into a great player. No way to really prove that, I guess, other than to wait and see. Says he dislikes Rose because he apparently won't become a complete player. Again, he doesn't know this, he's just saying it as if it is a fact.

It's a lot of mumbo jumbo. Most likely, he doesn't like Rose because he doesn't play for his favorite team.

I think it's just one of those unexplainable, irrational dislikes for a player...which is fine. I have plenty of those. But writing an entire GQ article on the subject is a bad idea. Because like you said, what he wrote is mumbo jumbo.

I would think a writer would seek out statistical support for his argument before publishing it to the world.

I mean it's not as if he titled his article "My strange, irrational dislike for Rose." He's saying he's going to make an actual case against him, and then simply doesn't.

He was on Boers and Bernstein and basically said that it isn't an indictment of how good he is or his relative value; just an aesthetic issue. He doesn't enjoy Derrick's game because it's just physical exploitation over less gifted individuals and there isn't much art to it.

Which is true, but its something I aesthetically love. It's a very predatory, almost shark-like style.

I read that last week. He basically wrote in circles and didn't really have a coherant point. I dont think I am saying this because he was ripping Derrick Rose. If you read that article without reading the title and intro, you'd almost think it was a fluff piece about Rose.

They have road games remaining against Miami, Orlando twice, Atlanta twice, and New York. They have home games remaining against Boston, Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Utah, Memphis, and Phoenix. 13 of the remaining 28 games against winning teams. Of the other 15 games, 10 of them are roadies, where the Bulls can lose to anyone.

So, really, just 5 of the 28 remaining games are "gimmes" (Washington, Sacramento, Toronto, New Jersey, Philly), and even Philly is playing really well of late. 7-6 against the winning teams and 6-4 in the roadies gets them to 56 wins.

March definitely comes in like a lion.

@ ATL

@ Orlando

@ Miami

vs. NO

@ Charlotte

vs. ATL

vs. Utah

Other than that, you got Thursday home vs. Miami, late March game in Atlanta, late April @ Orlando and Knicks, and mid April home vs. Boston. Miami's schedule is tough to start March also, so hopefully the Bulls can take Thursday's game, finish out Feb strong, and go at least 4-3 to start March.

LOL from Sam Smith:

Carmelo was mad at the Bulls for not giving up Joakim Noah. One story I heard was Anthony crossed the Bulls off his list as an insult when they wouldn’t trade Noah for him.

HAHA. Even funnier now that the Knicks are holding out on giving up Mozgov to get Melo.

I have no idea what the [expletive] that means. Maybe I'm not smart enough.

He doesn't like watching Derrick Rose because he's more talented than his opponents? Who is his favorite player then, Darko?

(oh wait....it makes sense now)

He's a smaller, stupider Blake Griffin, and no one complains about BG physically dominating people.

Technically from 3 days ago, but here's a good article about Derrick Rose's shooting progression this year: Rose trusting his jumper.

Nice. Thanks for that.

Also with regards to his scoring efficiency, specifically points per shot attempt, I was reading something on Bleacher Report of all places, and came across this tidbit:

The NBA average for this about 1.22 points per attempt. LeBron James averages 1.40 and Kevin Durant 1.42. Derrick Rose on the season is averaging 1.23, ever so slightly above average. There's more to this story though.

Before the New Year's game Derrick Rose got sick of not getting foul calls, so he went and started studying the film and figured out that the reason he wasn't getting calls is that he was hitting the lane too fast. He determined that if he actually slowed down a bit going into the net he would get more calls. It's little wonder why, his efficiency before the calendar changed was only 1.18.

Since then he's steadily improved. In the month of January he was at 1.30. For the month of February he's at 1.37, past Kobe territory and entering LeBron and Durant territory. His 42 points against the Spurs last Thursday came on only 28 shots, and over his last three games he's been scoring 1.46 points per field goal attempt. He's improved and still improving.

Wait, he's supposed to just be on a hot streak, not actually improving as a basketball player. This can't be.

The Free Darko guy is usually a very good writer, this one is a major misfire. It never really makes any cogent points and he basically just dislikes Derricks game as a preference, and theres nothing really rational about it. Which is fine, I hate some players irrationally too, but I don't write articles about it.

The worst part about it is there are very clear objective facts that point towards Derrick becoming a more complete player, his defense, his jumpshooting, etc.

And I have to say, completely subjectively, I find Derrick Rose's game beautiful. It may be brutish in a way, he isn't a Kobe who pokes and prods and finds his way to an open shot, he does force his way past and through people, but the way he controls his body is so graceful and awe inspiring. Angling his body to avoid defenders, holding on to the ball until the very last second, how is that not aesthetically pleasing?

He tried to write some arty sports piece like he was John Updike or some [expletive] and failed miserably.
