You can't challenge forward progress being stopped for that purpose, can you?

Why not?

Certain judgment calls just aren't reviewable. I don't actually know if you can or can't review that, but it seems like the kind of thing they keep unreviewable

Are you talking about the Cutler sneak? They didn't rule forward progress was stopped. The side judge ran right along the sideline indicating he just didn't get in. It was reviewable.

No, UM thinks you can review to see when forward progress was stopped, not just where. So, hypothetically, even if he hadn't gotten into the endzone, they could rule that he was "down" before he fumbled because his forward progress had been stopped for long enough.

I've had what I'll call a Sulley weekend. All my teams lost: Hawks (Black) -- twice; Hawks (Jay); Bears. Add in that Mizzou won, and I've never been so happy to have a weekend come to an end.

Oh I see what you mean. I don't think that's reviewable, but it clearly wasn't the case. The only thing that matters about that play is that the refs made a mistake and Lovie made an even bigger, unforgivable mistake.

BTW, whoever it was who said they were going to be taking the defense going against the Bears in fantasy each week has gotta be really thrilled today.

7 PA, 4 Sacks, 4 INT, 2 Fum rec, 1 TD. In my league that's 36 points.

Your league doesn't count defensive scores against a defense? That is a common complaint of fantasy owners but I haven't seen many leagues who will actually do that.

Just got back from a bar where i watched the game, so don't know any of the fallout and haven't gotten a chance to fully read this thread.

All I know is that the Bears sucked today, but Lovie Smith cost them the game. That was absolutely a touchdown by Cutler and should have been challenged. And the challenge one play before was beyond moronic.

How stupid can a head coach possibly be. Challenge a play that was clearly a correct call when you have 1st and goal on the 0.5 yard line. Furthermore, the Bears were on offense and could've slowed down the play a few seconds to get a good look at the replay. And then, the very next play where a TD was turned into a turnover- no challenge.

What an absolute moron. They should fire him today.

One thing that went unmentioned in the broadcast (not going to wade through here to see if it was mentioned) was that one of Hall's INT was actually an incomplete pass. Looking at the DVR replay, Hall got the ball, fell to the ground, and the ball bounced up a bit when it touched the ground in his hands. It was yet another play Lovie should have challenged...but didn't.

It's one thing if you waste challenges, but for heaven's sake, don't be a miser with them at the absolute worst possible time.

Also, someone please tell me there's a Youtube clip or animated gif out there of McNabb's response to the Redskins' botched field goal. That was one of the few bright spots of this game.

with that, only my teams, gentlemen.

this is another example of getting laughably unlucky in addition to being bad.

we really deserved to win this game. we were better.

Really? I know this is your schtick, but come on. Your squad turned it over 5 times. Your franchise QB threw 4 awful INT's. Not many teams win when they turn it over that much. You certainly were unlucky with the Redskins recovering that many fumbles, but you give the ball away that much and you can't say you deserved to win the game.

Dungy is pointing out what we all know, but it still needs to be said. When Jay gets under pressure, he mechanics break down. He backpedals, throws off his back foot, and throws wounded ducks. On the Hall INT return for a TD, the Bears are in the red zone with 3 or 4 receivers. All the receivers are running into the endzone and no one runs a 5 yard out. None of the receivers picked up the hot read. And they all seemed to break to the sideline which made Jay have to put a lit more air under the ball. That is the problem with Martz. No audibles, everybody goes long, and no one is there to help Jay out. With that said, Jay has to improve his mechanics.

Which is why some people thought this was an odd move to begin with considering this group of O-lineman and WR's. A bad o-line and dumb WR's who haven't with no pedigree and limited track record don't spell success with this offense.

From what I've seen of the Bears this year they're defense is balling as well as ever. Peppers has been much better than I've expected and much more consistent. Urlacher looks like he's 25 again. Hester is looking like a stud returning punts again. They're ripping at the ball like they always do. Cutler is just a terrible decision maker with a bad o-line in front of him. Give Tice another year and he'll get 5 that can protect. Bennett looks like a guy who can thrive. Knox can be Bernard Berrian. Soft, but he can fly. Hester is your wild card.

Too bad the Vikings dug themselves a hole that they might not be able to take advantage of a soft division.

I really have no confidence that Tice can turn the line around. Jerry or the new GM just has to get better talent. It wouldn't hurt to give Aromashadu some more playing time. When Cutler throws balls up, the Bears have no receivers with size to battle for the ball.

I think the problem is more on Cutler than Bears fans want to admit.

Tice turned chicken ish into chicken salad in his latter years.

And therein lies the biggest problem. Receivers who are too dumb to make a hot read, break a route off (the right way, anyhow), or make any kind of adjustment at all. Warner was great in St. Louis because he got rid of the ball and Holt and Bruce were smart and knew where to be on every play.
