I want no part of what it will take to get Greinke from them. The time to do that was in '07 or '08 when he was underrated. Not now when he is very overrated.

I wonder what it would take to get Greinke and Gordon and call it an off season. Maybe a package of:

Colvin

J. Jackson/Carpenter

Hak Ju Lee/Junior Lake

plus a few mid level propsects or major league ready guys. If theyd laugh too hard, maybe replace Colvin with Vitters. Maybe if we get creative, we could get Soria in the mix.

Greinke's interesting. His 2009 was excellent. But his 2007, 2008 and 2010 were all very similarly slightly above average. I'd be very interested to see if Rothschild can help him turn the corner to being a consistent ace type pitcher. He is still only turning 27 next week so you can probably get his best performance over the next 2 years, the final 2 of his contract.

I'd kick the tires on him definitely. He'll only cost 13.5Mil for each of the next 2 years, which should be less $ than Lee and a shorter committment than any other FA SP worth a crap.

I actually don't think it would cost too much in terms of prospects because of his price tag. His salary nearly doubles and KC would be paying him 3x as much as anyone else on their roster. I think if they can get some ML ready talent they'd make the deal in a heartbeat.

I'd be shocked if we can get him without sending at least one of Brett Jackson, Archer, or McNutt. And I'd venture it'd probably also cost us Cashner as well.

He'll end up in Boston, New York or Anaheim.

i don't think anaheim would really be interested. they're pretty stacked with front of the rotation starters. they need hitting

I really don't see Greinke going to Boston or New York. He already has the anxiety issue. Watching him play all year it's pretty obvious he is on some heavy duty medicine.

When he's a free agent I think he'll more likely go to a team that's contending, but not such a huge market. Anywhere from the Rangers to the Twins to maybe the Giants.

i'd give them cashner and mcnutt or archer

I've gone back and forth on Greinke honestly. The anxiety issues he has and playing in a major market like Chicago, makes me think twice on giving up a lot for him.

Yea but I'm equally back and forth on Cashner.

So happy that we fucked with him this season when he was finally dominating as a starter. That's an all-time bonehead Cubs move for me. Just sickening.

I would have no problem trading Colvin and other parts for Greinke, which the Royals might do. My guess is the Cubs would not make that trade for several reasons, so its probably moot.

At this point, it's inevitable he's just going to be a setup man with us, as stupid as it is. We might as well trade him now.

I think the Royals are probably looking for a high caliber type of a prospect(s), the one that is probably MLB ready in 2011/2012, and others in 2012/2013. Most of their core players are still in the minors, and I don't anticipate them bringing those players up until the end of the 2011 season or the beginning of the 2012 season.

Of course, I'm just speculating. I just hope, for KC sake, that they don't pull something like the Dye for Perez trade.

I would think the first name that they would ask for would be Starlin Castro.

I'm with Josh on this one -- not sure that the Cubs are the best place for a guy with Greinke's anxiety issues, especially seeing that we'd have to give up young players of value to get him.

I've heard that the Cubs have kicked the tires on this on one of the radio stations down here. The AM dj guy thought that the Royals would want BJack, Cashner, and Archer. Edited by illiniguy

That's way too much, I think. I don't think we need Greinke that much.

With as much really good young pitching as we have both in the majors and minors, I don't think we should be giving prospects for a pitcher. If it was a really good, young bat, I'd consider overpaying.

The Royals should want that. They shouldn't get it though. Teams should call their bluff. They aren't going to pay Greinke $13.5Mil/year and continue to pick in the top 7.
