on a Wednesday?

Strange...I would have thought if someone was getting canned it would be on Tuesday at the latest.

The article appears to be mostly speculation, though they have "sources". They aren't saying anything is going to happen immediately...only if they lose to the Texans.

Even if they win on Sunday, fire him and bring in Cowher please.

I think Cowher is going to be really choosy on where he returns to. I'm thinking the only jobs he'd consider would be those close to his home in North Carolina - Panthers, Titans, maybe Jags (not sure on distance there).

That's just going off the comments that he wanted to be with his family when he retired the first time.

Chargers nixed several deals for Vincent Jackson today. The Vikings were willing to give a 2nd round pick and a future pick and had worked out a contract with Jackson.

Thank God.

A.J. Smith is a stubborn fool. Reminds me of Carl Peterson.

He really is, I would understand if Jackson was holding out but had a reasonable contract for the next few years. But he is going to be a FA after the year so why not take a 2nd round draft pick for him???? Or any sort of compensation? Seems like he let his ego get in the way of making a smart decision.

I wonder if his thinking has changed since the death of his wife? I understand him wanting to be close to his family while she was sick, but now that she has passed away maybe he is more willing to take a job more based on the strength/prestige of the franchise instead of just where it's located? Dallas is is a very good fit for him IMO.

His youngest daughter has graduated from high school, as well.

That's a good point I didn't think of. It's entirely possible he'll be more open to moving out again.

I didn't think of that. His biggest issue is if he could co-exist with Jones which could make Gruden a better candidate. I've been calling for it for two years now, but all they really need is some discipline to make the next step. I still think Gruden would make one hell of a college coach though. He could be a recruiting machine.

Gruden's biggest problem is that he can't pick a QB. He had Rich Gannon in Oakland, but he went through so many QBs in Tampa and never could settle on one. They never developed one (or even tried, I believe) either.

He was rumored for the Tennessee job after Fulmer was fired (though I don't think it was ever realistic) and while I was intrigued, his inability to settle on and develop a QB concerned me. It'd be the same way for an NFL team.

Gruden's "going through QB's like the QB goes through chearleaders" mentality could be highly entertaining if matched up with Romo and all the doubts people have about him.

It wouldn't surprise me if Gruden's presence in Dallas brought back Drew Henson, Chad Hutchinson and Drew Bledsoe just to try them out again. I'd just about guarantee that Jeff Garcia would find his way on the roster there as well.

Vinny Testaverde would probably show up uninvited as well.

Heck, he'd probably invite Testaverde. You can never have enough QBs in that rotation.

If they lose this weekend, Garrett should be the one that tries to salvage the season. He's getting paid almost head coaching money anyways, and nobody is going to want to come in in the middle of the season.

If he fails, get rid of him and look for someone in the offseason.

Of course, this is Jerry Jones - the same Jerry Jones that kept Phillips after a 44-6 beating in a virtual playoff game against the Eagles two years. Or the same guy who said they were keeping TO then cut him the next week or two. So who knows what the hell he's thinking.

If the Vikings lose Sunday and Favre is bad again, you gotta make the switch to Jackson. The Vikings aren't going anywhere if they lose and you have to see what you have with Tavaris. On the other hand, I don't see why Reid made the switch to Vick for week three. Anyone can tear up the Lions' secondary. I don't understand what made him change his mind over the course of one day between weeks. This is a rebuilding year for Philly and Vick won't get you a Super Bowl. But Kolb, at least if he totally tops out, has a better chance of doing so.

You think the Vikings are going to sit a 20 million dollar quarterback?

I don't really see how the Vikings will see him as the QB of the future. If there is no NFL next year you're looking at a 29 year old QB with not too much experience. Plus there is no way you bench Favre (or no way Favre let's them bench him). He didn't come back to sit on the bench.
