NFL Week 3

If the Vikings lose Sunday and Favre is bad again, you gotta make the switch to Jackson. The Vikings aren't going anywhere if they lose and you have to see what you have with Tavaris. On the other hand, I don't see why Reid made the switch to Vick for week three. Anyone can tear up the Lions' secondary. I don't understand what made him change his mind over the course of one day between weeks. This is a rebuilding year for Philly and Vick won't get you a Super Bowl. But Kolb, at least if he totally tops out, has a better chance of doing so.

You think the Vikings are going to sit a 20 million dollar quarterback?

There is a better chance of me kicking for the Cowboys this season than them benching Farve right now.

You kicking for the Cowboys could be better than what we have now.

Thats why I mentioned it :-). Seriously, how hard is it to find a [expletive] kicker.

This stuck out to me. You think the Vikings don't know what they have with Tavaris?

The reason they paid so handsomly for Favre is because they know full well what they have with Tavaris.

yeah, they don't want tavaris. regardless of if they make the playoffs or not, i think they'll be trading up to get either luck or locker.

Unless this season ends up a total mess, I don't think they'll be able to trade up for Luck because I think he'll be top 5. Locker is the kind of guy Childress would go after. He loves raw projects that he thinks he can mold. I wouldn't be surprised if they think Joe Webb (6th round pick this year from UAB) can be the starter in 2 years. They were hell bent on keeping him and willing to trade Sage so Webb could be the 3rd QB.

Childress still seems high on Tarvaris and never gave Rosenfels a real chance at the backup job because of that. He's a free agent after this year and probably wants to get out as soon as he can though I doubt he'll find many opportunities even to be a guaranteed #2. I'm holding out faint hope that Vick lights it up in Philly and Kolb becomes disgruntled enough that they feel like trading him.

I liked the little bit I saw of Joe Webb at UAB, but I'm not sure if he's got the arm upside to be a significantly above average NFL QB.

Back to my original point for a second. If the Vikings lose and the Packers win, Minnesota's season is over. They should bench Favre at that point in my opinion, but they won't.

No I don't think Tavaris' potential has been realized. At least there hasn't been enough time for bad teams who aren't making the playoffs to see what their young QBs have. Coaches are just not giving these guys enough time (Moore, Kolb). Has Jackson even had a complete season under his belt? I just don't understand that if the Vikings are 0-3 why you don't see what you have with Jackson so you know what kind of QB you need next year.

Their season wouldn't be over. The division title is probably out of reach (not completely) but they could get in the hunt for a wild card with one decent hot streak. It's not like the NFC West is gonna be sending more than 1 playoff team.

The NFC East may not be either if the Cowboys and Giants don't rebound. An 0-3 team will need to really start playing, but can still get a wild card spot potentially.

I thought I heard that 0-3 teams only make the playoffs like 2-3% of the time.

Could Tavaris be the better QB right now and give Minnesota a better chance at getting to the playoffs?

That's because most 0-3 teams are horrible. The Vikings are probably a 'good' 0-3 if it came to that (they should beat Detroit though). It'd still be long odds but higher than 2-3% if that is indeed the probability.

As for Jackson, who knows. He's looked good at times.

I think Favre quits if they lose on Sunday.

There's not a chance they lose, though.

If Stafford were healthy, I think the Lions could have a chance to win in a shootout. Without Stafford, though, I don't know that the Lions have enough offense.

Jahvid Best is enough offense.

I'm pretty sure they feel he's alright for awhile, but limited as a full time starter when teams have a chance to really gameplan for him over the long term.

Childress can have a favorable feeling for him in regards to being a depth chart QB, while at the same time realizing he's not the future as the Vikings' full-time starter. And I think that's where the organization is at with Tavaris Jackson.

In short I think they know he's not the guy.

I liked the little bit I saw of Joe Webb at UAB, but I'm not sure if he's got the arm upside to be a significantly above average NFL QB.

They originally drafted him as a WR but once he got into mini-camps and OTA's and they saw him throw and read defenses they quickly decided to keep him at QB. He's got a huge arm and is a total freak athlete. A handful of players have said he's the best athlete on the team and he showed that in the preseason. He's huge with big hands, ran an electronic 4.4 and has something like a 43" vert which is why he looked like a nice raw, WR prospect.

But there are a lot of really good athletes who have big arms. That's what Tarvaris is/was. Accuracy and decision making are the most important traits for an NFL QB and you really have no idea yet with a guy like Webb. The coaches were impressed with how he handles himself and how quickly he picked up the offense. I'm not holding out hope for him to be anything more than a #2 but it would be really awesome to strike gold on a pick like that and get a guy who can at least be serviceable as a spot starter.
