Last time they did it Cris Carpenter was the Cardinals' starting pitcher; this time it was Chris Carpenter.

Dateline 2032: Cubs beat Cardinals and starting pitcher Kris Carpenter to sweep series.

Whenever we have a horrible season, at least we are able to dominate the Cardinals. 11-8 against them in 2006, 8-4 against them this year so far.

Nah, it'll be in 2013 when the Cubs' Chris Carpenter out-duels the Cards' Chris Carpenter to clinch the sweep. :D

Oh, we're still playing baseball?

Sort of. Perhaps more importantly, we're helping to ensure that the Cardinals will not be, where the playoffs are concerned.

Victories where you can get 'em.

It's sad that the highlight of the Cubs season was putting the dagger into the Cards

With the virtual death blows to the Cards and White Sox, Id say last night was the best night of this disaster of a season. At least I wont have to endure the Cardinals/White Sox World Series that I was bracing myself for early in the summer.

Yeah. I understand the Cards' season was probably in the toilet already, or certainly heading that way, but I actually watched this entire series pretty closely and enjoyed it for the symbolic dagger effect.

It kind of felt like the Cards were packing it in. And we were right there to greet them on their way to oblivion.

It's pretty sad that's all we have left as Cub fans in 2010, but I'll admit I took pleasure in this series.

And show them where the best restaurants are, what table to sit at, the best things on the menu and how to get into all the after parties.

No other sports are on this time of year.

Are you being serious? Or is this an attempt at sarcasm?

I hear there's this sport in America called "football." It isn't like the football the rest of the world is used to though, so I don't think it'll catch on.

Ok, your right, love going to a good CC meet but other than that I don't like college football and the NFL isn't interesting until week 14, and I don't do the "fantasy thing." I rather be doing yard work or going for a long run.

Baseball is at its best right now, I can't see baseball fans watching anything else

Oh...you're not being sarcastic...you're just trolling for a response. I'll pass.

No trolling here, you asked, I answered. I love baseball and, for me, this is the best time of year for it. Even the Cubs are a lot more enjoyable and gives me hope for next year.

I agree 100%. I'll never understand people who tune out in September just because their team is eliminated.

No, you said "no other sports are on this time of year" when obviously football, which is arguably the most popular sport in America, just started. He asked if that was intended to be sarcasm. Your explanation made it clear you were trolling.

I gotta be honest. I'm Cubs fan more than a baseball fan. That's why. I don't watch teams outside of the Cubs very often at all, unless they somehow impact the Cubs chances.

But even outside of that, 162 games is a long freaking haul if it ends up not mattering in the end. I have better, more enjoyable things I'd rather be doing than watching meaningless, bad baseball.

I'm not necessarily talking about tuning out on a lost Cubs season. If you like baseball at all, how can you not enjoy the September races and subsequent postseason?

Hope you weren't watching any godawful preseason NFL

Eh...about as much as I watch spring training games. I watch it for the players I care about...but once they're done, so am I.

I'll casually pay attention to the headlines...and I'll probably watch some playoff games...so I guess if that counts...
