Eagles = Braves. In the playoffs every year, almost always a bridesmaid never a bride.

Yeah but I thought the Packers were the best match, making the playoffs almost as often as the Braves, and only winning 1 title each, in the mid-90's.

I think the Packers are much better match for the Cardinals. A sanctimonious fan base that thinks it is the center of the heartland of its sport.

That's because we are, my friend. ;)

The Colts-Braves combination matches up very well. Prior success in a different city, after moving both teams became laughingstocks, then suddenly both teams put together the most dominant regular season runs either sport's modern era had ever seen but had relatively poor playoff success to go along with it.

What?

A one time upper class organization that has been pretty crappy for a while now whose last really successful era was in the 70's? Kind of fits. Not sure who else is better.

That is a good one.

To add on to goony's point about the 70s Steelers, Rothlisberger is hated pretty much everywhere and he's the face of their franchise.

It's really tough to compare the Yankees accomplishments to any football team.

Disagree completely. We're never lucky. Some of our postseason losses rival that of the Cubs compared to the Cardinals.

We're the perfect compliment to what the Braves were in the mid 90's and the 2000's.

Green Bay has missed the playoffs 5 out of the last 12 years and the 3 times they've gotten a bye in the last 15 years they've won a Super Bowl, lost a Super Bowl, and lost in the conference championship game. How is that anything like the Braves? Other than a couple of exceptions (the 2002 and 2007 team that comes to mind) Green Bay has been an inconsistent team that when it has made the playoffs usually advances in the playoffs until they get beat by a better team. When they actually had a great team for a couple years in the mid 90's they also played well in the playoffs.

And as for playoff appearance streaks, it looks like GB made it to 6 in a row, then missed 2, then made it to 4 more, then missed 2 more, and now has made, missed, and made in the last 3 years. That's good but hardly a special sort of streak like the Braves had. Other teams have at least similar records over that time.

I'm still pissed about the Arizona loss.

Yeah why the hell do the Steelers have so many fans everywhere? I don't get it at all.

Same reason as why the Cowboys have so many fans. They were both great during a time when TV had fully penetrated into market but there still wasn't a whole lot of football that was featured and it was more acceptable for fans to latch onto front runners.

Dallas is actually a big city though and until recently had a monopoly over the state of Texas.

Houston always had a decent following.

It doesn't really matter the size of the cities because most of the Steeler or Cowboy fans around the country have never lived near either one of the cities. The fact that they liked the teams probably had nothing to do with the city that team happened to be in. Although if size of the cities was important, Pittsburgh was much closer to Dallas as a city in the 70's then it is now.

Yeah, good point about Pittsburgh being bigger and more important as a city in the 70s. I had forgotten about the Oilers too.

Still lame.

They also had people leaving that city in droves, going elsewhere, but taking their fandom with them.

Yup. The (contemporary) Colts are the (contemporary) Braves of the NFL at this point. Outstanding regular season success, but only one championship to show for it. Hopefully that will change.

Really important game this weekend, in my opinion. Falling to 0-2 would be difficult. I'll be at the game, as well.

Bob Sanders of the Colts has his annual potentially season-ending injury already. He seems to me to be the Colts' version of Mike Brown: A very good player whose talent isn't worth much because he can't stay on the field.

Yeesh. 4 of his 6 seasons (potentially 5 of 7) in the league he has played in fewer than 7 games.

This sounds like the same injury he had last year but to the other arm.

Kind of I guess, but the Orioles current level of crappiness is so far beyond the Dolphins it's not even really worth talking about. The Dolphins have had a losing record 4 of the last 6 years, which is terrible for them (you have to go back to '88 and then '76 to find another Dolphins losing season) but the Orioles haven't had a winning season since 1997. But yes, both franchises were at their best in the 70's, for whatever that's worth. I get that it would be hard to make a good match and all.

I have no words for this:

Works for any team he bounces to next, I guess.

Well, I think they have them for all teams, including an Urlacher jersey (yikes).

But it does. A sound investment at $99.
