I think it would be dumb to strip Bush of the Heisman. He didn't take any PED's or cheat on the field. If VY deserved the trophy, he would have won it that year. Besides, how many of the other Heisman winners got improper benefits? Hell, OJ killed two people and didn't lose his.

 

He was ineligible to play. OJ didn't kill people during his years at USC (that we know of). I'd take it from Bush and give it to no one. If the NCAA acted when this news broke, instead of 5 years later, this would be a much easier resolution.

I'm looking forward to the game as well. But I'm not sure who is saying that the winner is on track for a good season. Neither of these teams is winning 10 games. The winner may end up having a worse record than the loser of this game (just like last season). Either team could lose and still go on to 7-8 wins and a mediocre bowl.

You really shouldn't. The Heisman is awarded to the best amateur football player. Reggie Bush wasn't an amateur. He doesn't get it. The only thing wrong with this is that it took so long.

 

I'm ok with nobody getting it that year, and I'm ok with VInce getting it. As long as Reggie doesn't.

Every loss yields a lower chance of a good bowl game. I don't see how it isn't important.

You may mean in the minds of the Heisman voters, but keep in mind they often award it to the wrong player. Bush earned his, but just because a player is awarded the Heisman doesn't mean he should have (see Mark Ingram/Ndamukong Suh).

Vlad Emilien is another defensive back for Michigan who has decided to transfer. The defense becomes even more comically thin. Pretty soon they'll be having tryouts in the Diag.

Not exactly. UM could lose its 3 remaining OOC games and go 7-1 in conference play and finish 2nd in the Big Ten.

 

But that's not the point. I wasn't saying it's less important than any other game. However, UMFan said it only the 5th game in the last 2 years that he found meaningful. Unless he finds every UM/ND game to be so meaningful, I'm not sure why this one is more important than other games. I'd think playing (and beating) a great Iowa or OSU team would be more meaningful than possibly beating what's likely a 7 or 8 win Irish team.

 

Either way, not a huge deal. I didn't intend this to be some big tangent, more a personal Q for UMFan.

Barring injury, it shouldn't be a HUGE loss (though obviously, you never want to lose any player on your 2-deep).

Yes, he had definitely lost a step. It hurts because he was 3rd string on the depth chart. The problem with that is the 2nd string (who's a walk-on) just broke his collarbone a week and a half ago and will be out for the season, so now there's Cam Gordon and ???? at free safety.

I was randomly checking out lines in the paper last night. Where can I go bet on Florida Atlantic +28.5 against MSU? No disrespect to the Spartans, but they almost never blow out their FBS non-conference opponents. Seems like that's a slam dunk.

The only difficult part of resolving this is getting Bush to stick the trophy in a FedEx box. It's pretty open and shut if you ask me.

 

There's no way that doing anything else but vacating the award for that year is under consideration.

oh, Cam Newton, Mario Fannin, and Mike Dyer will run all over MSU, but Auburn's defense scares me....they gave up 24 first half points to Arkansas State before settling a bit and only allowing 3 second half points.
