IM 200M

Phelps wins his 16th gold. 20th medal overall. He passes Argentina on the all time list. He's a pretty good swimmer. Lochte gets 2nd, but never really challenged relatively.

Lochte blew it in the last 50 again.

Use the spoiler tags, fer [expletive] sake

He should have, but you should probably just avoid this thread if you don't want spoilers. Much the way you don't go into the Breaking Bad thread and whine about spoilers.

sports aren't spoiled.

Generally I agree. But when it's tape delayed for american audiences, I can understand trying to remain unspoiled.

I've seen news of the results in dozens of locations in the last 30 minutes. if you are making the effort to avoid being "spoilered" from a sporting event that anybody can follow live don't read about the olympics.

Agreed, which was my original point to Derwood. He probably should've just avoided the thread.

I agree with jersey, if a person is trying to avoid spoilers then they probably should not be reading message board threads about the Olympics. :-k

i like the 200m IM result. i've been rooting for phelps a little more than lochte because i refuse to let super ridiculous hotness cloud my judgment. also, i can forgive the bad hair in beijing but i can't completely forget. all in all, really happy that they each beat each other once.

and more importantly, omg gabby douglas. i can't wait to see it later. gymnastics is just killing me this year.

The US scored 49 points in the first quarter of their basketball game today. That's like a 230 point pace over 48 minutes. 235.

And handball isn't as stupid as water polo, where they take shockingly few shots despite losing the ball a lot in turnovers on passes and making such a high percentage of shots taken. I can't believe that's an optimal strategy, top level of the sport or not.

Handball is stupid

handball goalie has to be the easiest job ever. i think i can average the 1-2 saves per game i see.

Considering I am being spoiled with Olympics results each time I visit Google News, I don't think this thread's spoilers are going to give me fits.

....and I cannot resist going to google news. i'm too far gone to change for 2 weeks.

If you don't want to see the results from the Olympics, you probably shouldn't check the thread which was created to talk about the Olympics.

federer/del petro in the 3rd set tied 15 games a piece. if you're not watching this right now, you should be.

Getting back to the fascinating sport of dressage: Hiroshi Hoketsu ended 40th today, at the age of 70 8-)

Which is the same result he got at the Tokio Olympics in 1964 in the showjumping event.

Federer will face Murray in the men's final while Serena Williams will take on Sharapova.

Also looking forward to watching Phelps's comeback in the 100 fly later tonight.
