My concern is that his time with the Yankees will convince some stupid team to offer him a multi-year deal for too much money.

And at that point you don't hesitate to walk away.

Also, yes nuts, you can and should dream.

Well I don't hesitate to walk away, but what if the Cubs are that stupid team. I really have a hard time seeing them not signing a 3 year deal for some reliever, I'd prefer it at least be for a guy that has a chance to be worth it, than having to hear drooling buffoons call the Score everyday for the next 3 years about how Wood's a [expletive].

They didn't even offer arbitration to the guy when he was younger and looking more stable. I really doubt they go three years on Wood, unless they are team options with incentives or something.

That's a very bad sign for an aging reliever.

True or not, can we not use this term when describing Kerry?

He turns 34 years old this upcoming season and has no chance of starting again, so yeah, he's an aging reliever.

I'm not denying that. I'm just asking that we not use the term...I'm only a few months off from his birthday. He's my "sports age" reference. Or something.

Also I wasn't serious.

What are you a Sex and the City character? I've been calling guys younger than me old in sports for a few years now.

Don't watch SatC, so sorry...don't get the reference. But when Kerry first came up I realized we were close in age and it's just something that's stuck with me. Anyhow, didn't mean to make into a thing...just was a throwaway comment...

Oh, a thing you have made my friend.

He's like a year and a half younger than me and I've always thought of him as a kid until this summer. I'm freaking old. And the reference is that you are trying to pretending you aren't old, which you are.

Huh. I always thought Jersey Cubs Fan was like 19-23. I have no idea why I thought that, and I'm not trying to be insulting here, BTW.

As crotchety and cranky as he is, I thought he was like 60 or something.

Yeah, you have to REALLY ignore a lot to look at his time with the Yankees as indicative of him being a smart bullpen signing. It was almost a miracle that he didn't give up more runs with as many guys as he put on base. That's a very bad sign for an aging reliever.

He had a 1.2 WHIP.

Yeah, because of his .192 BABIP.

His babip with the Yankees this year was .236, not .192, according to Baseball Reference.

Yeah, the .192 I used was from Sept/Oct because Aramis Fan used the term "down the stretch".

Are you talking about Kerry Wood or Kerry Bradshaw? :D

That's what I get for not reading carefully enough.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Cubs general manager Jim Hendry is "keeping an eye on" Kerry Wood for his bullpen.

Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com reported similar information last week, though Hendry has refused to comment for now. "Everyone knows I have a wonderful relationship with Kerry, and that will be a life-lasting one,'' said Hendry. "But to get into specifics now ... would be foolish." Wood, 33, would be welcomed with open arms in Chicago, but he would have to take a back seat to Carlos Marmol as closer. He thrived in a set-up role with the Yankees down the stretch, but it's not known if he still has a preference to close.

My God...Hendry must be stopped NOW. To even harbor ONE thought of bringing back Wood is ridiculous. Jeez..I suppose Chad Fox will again be invited to spring training also. Hendry has these 'good relationships' with broken down players looking for another payday and he's more than willing to give it to them. He's terrible.

I wouldn't go that far. It wouldn't be absurd at the right price (and limited to one-year, or at best a team option for more). I have little faith that's what Hendry would give Wood though.

I would hardly call Wood broken down looking for another payday too.

1 year, team option for 2nd. 1.5 mil per. Done.

I'll hang up and listen to your response

If this team is going to be terrible next year and bogged down with a bloated payroll, with no hopes of getting much better until Hendry gets deservedly fired, the Cubs might as well waste money on guys I like to root for.
