I know the All-Star break was in the middle of this streak, but no WGN games between July 8th and the 21st? That's a long stretch right there.

Knowing that a large percentage of their fanbase originated from watching their games on WGN growing up in other cities, I don't know why they don't put as many games as possible on there. I probably wouldn't be a Cubs fan if it was not for WGN.

TBS could have changed my life but i too chose WGN.

The Cubs reportedly make somewhere around 10-15 million more per year on the games they broadcast on CSN than they would if they were all on WGN. In addition, there is still the somewhat confirmed thought that the Cubs actually have to pay a substantial amount of money per game in order to put games on a superstation that breaks into other teams broadcast areas. It's a huge source of revenue that the Cubs have a hard time ignoring even though it may cause them to have a smaller fanbase in the future.

WGN seems to show less and less Cubs games each year, and that's probably the only thing keeping them alive as a network.

Quite sad.

But what about Outta Sight Retro Night and Movie Underground??!!

The Cubs will not be on WGN much longer.

Can't wait for that deal to end and then the Comcast one so that the Ricketts can roll out the Cubs' Network.

I don't know...with the internet, 400 different cable channels, MLB Extra innings, MLB.tv, I don't think having the games on WGN has the effect it used to. The Cardinals aren't on KMOX anymore and the Braves aren't on TBS anymore, so I guess they don't think it's a big deal either.

Ditto. 100% guarantee I'm not a Cubs fan if we didn't get WGN when I was a kid.

I certainly understand, with the numbers CCP provided, why they're showing more and more games on other channels. And with so many other options on ways to watch not just the Cubs but baseball in general, I don't think it's all that big of a deal.

It sucks for those of us in Iowa, the home of the AAA affiliate of the Cubs, as the main cable provider in the Des Moines area doesn't carry CSN. So unless you have Dish/DirecTV, you get to see fewer than half of the games. A Cubs network would be great.

And don't even get me started on the blackout rules and how they affect us here.

Yeah. I'm in the Cubs' "home market" and my cable company only carries WGN, not CSN. I get screwed out of watching over half the games. How does no one realize that the blackout rules make no sense at all?

DirecTV, DirecTV, DirecTV.

My GF has DirecTV. Every time it rains or snows the damn thing stops working. EVERY TIME.

CUBS are 14-21 when WGN broadcasts the game

CUBS are 20-15 when CSN broadcasts the game

Go CUBS !!

That's another thing I don't understand. The past few years, it seems as though the Cubs have played significantly better on CSN than on WGN.

Ricketts family has a stake in CSN.

I think it is safe to say that fans will become more regional over time. Sure, there's DirecTV, but the ones buying that are probably the older crowd who grew up watching WGN (guys like many of us on the board here).

The days of kids across the nation becoming Cub fans might be coming to an end.

I'm asked all the time how a kid from Arkansas becomes a cub fan. That's easy --- Cubs were on my TV 150 times per year.

I don't know about you but I didn't control the TV provider decisions in my house as a kid.

Because I don't feel like paying $180 to watch maybe half the games. There's so many on during the day that it's hard to justify paying that much for really so few games. My cable bill is way too high already.
