I wish the NBA could institute a running clock and quick restarts after fouls and out of bounds plays. Would really help reduce all the referee bickering that drains the game.

So basically with 1 point here, we only need to get 3 more points to feel really good about advancing. There's going to be a lot less pressure to have to beat the other 2 teams than there would have been if we took 0 points here. I don't know if the less pressure is a good or bad thing, but whatever.

Okay, say we get three points out of Algeria/Slovenia.

England's got a great shot at seven points, and then beats us has a good shot to win their other game and get six points.

We still need four more points to feel comfortable, I'd think.

ETA: A draw between Slovenia/Algeria tomorrow morning makes things look much, much better.

So i posted this earlier but it was during heat of battle and I wanted to see what the soccer guys think

On a scale of 1-10 how much of a victory was drawing here for the US?

Conversely, how much of a disapointment was drawing for England?

7.5/2.5, I'd say.

We drew Italy 1-1 last time, too. And I'm still not sure it increases our chance of advancement.

I can't believe Bradley waited so long for subs (and not the ones I would have made). They were gassed, and I think fortunate it didn't cost them.

I agree. It was very frustrating to watch.

-If Bob Bradley made subs 20 minutes earlier we'd have had a chance to win.

-Demerit completely marked Rooney out, and Gooch, after the poor work on the 1st goal, played well. Rico shouldn't see the field again; inexcusable to ball watch on Steven Gerrard.

-Landon and Clint had good games. They did a ton of running and defending on the wings. LD neutralized Lennon for the most part. Clint showed exactly why you have to shoot and put the ball on frame.

-Michael Bradley, I thought, played really well. Findley played over his ability. He held his own very well. 'Dolo was really good after the first 10 minutes. Boca was steady too.

-Tim Howard had a great game.

-Jamie Carragher had two challenges that, had they been made by Demerit or Mikey, would have been straight red.

Looking to SLV, this is a game you'll see Torres feature. No reason we shouldn't beat them. None.

Drawing with the team that was most likely to beat us dramatically increases our odds.

Yeah but we had a much harder group back then and we had already lost to the other dominant team by multiple goals at that point in the tourney. While everyone celebrated that as a victory, they really needed an actual victory to have a great shot at advancing.

McManaman looked absolutely distraught after the game. I think in terms of advancing, England shouldn't being that upset. And in terms of how they played, they had plenty of good opportunities and didn't put them away. But overall you gotta think they're pretty disapointed here. I'd say more of 4-5 for England. For USA, I'd say an 8. I don't think in the locker room they thought this way, but you have to consider getting a draw here to be a victory for the USA.
