Interesting marketing war as a side-story to the world cup:

Women in minis held by FIFA

I'd say confiscate their dresses but let them stay and watch the game. 8-)

(not sure how much the cameras would be pointed at the game action after that, but what the hell ...)

New Zealand stuns Slovakia with less than a minute to go in stoppage time to equalize. What a fantastic desperation cross.

De Rossi says Ronaldo got completely hammered on that challenge.

been looking forward to ivory coast-portugal... north korea is going to lose 15-0 later today

The most fascinating part of the NK match will be how they spin it.

I read an article that said they won't show the match live in DPRK and will only show it on tape delay if they win.

Since no one has internet or cell phones, it shouldn't be that hard to do...

this referee has been atrocious so far

It's Larrionda -- of 2006 Italy-USA fame and 2009 Confederations Cup fame. He gave 3 reds to Americans in those games (Mastroeni, Pope and Bradley). He's awful.

Drogba getting ready to enter in the 63rd. Ivory Coast has had the better of play to this point in the second half already.

Trying to come up with baseball equal of Ian Darke's gleeful trashing of Ronaldo. Maybe Buck saying, "You know, Tim, ARod's a real [expletive]."

Sadly, I'm on a call and can only watch this half.

Man. Both of those balls in stoppage time need to be put on goal. Some great chances to put Portugal away.

Scoring seems down a bit so far. Only three teams out of 26 have managed to score 2 or more goals in their first game, and only one game in the entire tournament so far has had more than 2 goals scored in the game (Germany 4-0 over Australia). Almost half the games have had 1 goal or less scored in the game.

Overall 1.54 goals are being scored per game (combined).

Also, 6 of the 13 games are ties so far if I'm counting correctly. That won't do much to appeal to US audiences.

seriously, they need to send 3 players off for 5 minutes instead of granting free kicks.

Brazil are primarily a counter attacking team. As are many in this tournament, which is a huge reason scoring is down.

North Korea's 11 men behind the ball bunker actually does not cater to Brazil's strengths. I know you were joking and I wouldn't be surprised if Brazil wang whips them for 90 minutes straight and puts up 8, but I don't really see a ton of goals. 3-0 at most.
