4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP for jackson. he was rolling along pretty well until he gave up a triple, walk and two singles with two outs in the 4th inning. probably got tired because of the idiotic bullpen stint.

Wait he's a starter again now?

Does anyone running this organization have any idea what the hell they're doing?

"The reasons are as follows," player development director Oneri Fleita said. "Jackson has had a chance he can throw out of the pen, and he did a great job. And now we'd like to know what Cashner can do out of the pen because these kids are young kids.

"They've pitched for two years and I'd hate to know that they (couldn't come) up here because we had a need for our bullpen."

These words make very little sense.

I say we move John Gaub and Blake Parker to the rotation. We need to know what they can do as starters because these kids are young kids. I'd hate to know that they couldn't come up here because we had a need for our rotation.

If only Cashner had spent some time in college and then again early in his professional career in the bullpen, with dominating results. If only.

I've said multiple times that I really don't have a problem with these guys pitching out of the big league bullpen, or even getting a few outings in the minors before getting called up. But I have no idea what the point is of sending them to the AAA bullpen for a few weeks and then back to the rotation. It's crazy.

Funny how quite a few of us were discussing what was going to happen with Cashner after his last start. I pretty much knew this was going to happen - a little surprised they are experimenting with him in the pen instead of just calling him up now however.

Although, I don't really like this decision, Cashner is talented enough to potentially lock down the 8th inning.

Marmol/Cashner is quite the talented 8th/9th inning.

"Cashner allowed one unearned run on three hits in one inning against Salt Lake, striking out two. He will pitch one more inning Saturday before the Cubs decide what to do next. Jay Jackson, another starter who was switched to the bullpen, will move back into the Iowa rotation."

So they're doing good in the rotation, they get moved to the pen. Jackson does good in the pen, he gets sent back to the rotation. It's like Samuel L. Jackson's character in Unbreakable. They're going to desperate lengths to find the prospect that can not be destroyed.

With the way B Jackson's been hitting, he could probably make a decent bat off the bench if one of our outfielders goes down, or at least for September call ups....

Therefore, I think it's best that we bench him, and use him only for pinch hitting appearances in the minors. Get him used to coming off the bench cold late in games.

There is a chance that Hendry reads these boards, don't give him any more stupid ideas.

This is as angry as you'll ever see me about things.

So ... the pitcher that has been stretched out, has handled a full-season workload of starting, and has been working with the same arsenal goes back to the rotation and the pitcher who is working on a 3rd pitch, adjusting to a full workload as a starter, and learning how to pitch as a starter goes to the pen? What the heck was the point of jerking around Jay Jackson? Furthermore, why not ... well, see if Jackson can pitch out of the pen for your current needs then? It's not like he's only a middle relief guy for the pen - with mid-90's heat and a good breaking ball, he could be a late inning option.

Ugh, anyhow, Cashner's going to be up soon. I'd guess early June now. So disappointing in the timing of these moves and whatever the thought process is. Actually, I wasn't that pissed about Cashner because I expected it. I'm pissed about the jerking around of Jay, though.

Someone mentioned it in yesterday's game thread, but this is totally a move of a desperate team, searching for quick fixes. Hendry and Lou are trying to find ANYONE to lock down the damn 8th inning(because Sean Marshall OBVIOUSLY sucks) and doing it at the expense of Jackson and Cashner, because neither of them are going to be around here to see the eventual possible ramifications. Don't get me wrong, both of these guys are young and if they were brought to the majors and put in the pen, it wouldn't be the end of the world, as they could both have their shots at the rotation next spring, but that's not what's going on here. They're being AUDITIONED for roles in the major league pen and having their routines messed up because of it. If you're going to do it, just bring them on up. And if you do, be prepared to keep them up and in the same damn role you brought them up for, for the rest of the year. This isn't Jeff Stevens, Esmailin Caridad, or Justin Berg here, these are two VERY legit prospects that theoretically can be your damn 1 and 2 starters within 2-3 years. They deserve better treatment than this crap. Hendry and Lou created this damn mess to begin with, live with the consequences now fellas.

It's needless to jerk these guys around during the middle of the season. Especially after they've seen what it did(along with a lack of talent) to Shark. And what makes this even more mind-numbingly stupid is the fact that Blake Parker and John Gaub ARE ON THE 40 MAN and sitting down in AAA without ever getting their shot.(yes, Gaub is yet another lefty and I understand we don't need another one right now, although that just brings me to yet another point, of why not just move freaking Silva to the pen, since it's obviously a flat-out necessity to bring Z back) Not to mention the fact that Thomas Diamond has pitched great this year and if anyone was going to be moved to the pen, it seems like he'd be the perfect choice, due to his former arm issues to begin with.

I really hope Ricketts looks long and hard this offseason at EVERYONE from top to bottom in this organization and holds them accountable. Because if he does, there are going to be very few people left standing.

hahahahahaha....so their decision will be based on two innings as a reliever. that's gold, baby.

So much for that hot start in AA for Vitters. .246/.259/.368 9k/0BB in 57 AB. The guy has yet to dominate a single level of pro baseball for any substantial period of time, and he's already in AA as a 20 year old. Why have they felt the need to promote him at the drop of a hat?

Jay Jackson had 8 career pro relief outings before this season. And yes, Cashner has had some experience relieving in college. Good test.

Don't forget to adjust for the league he's playing in.

.328/.365/.498 in Boise (hitters league)

.316/.351/.535 in Peoria (significant pitchers league)

.291/.350/.445 in Daytona (the best league for pitchers)

What numbers do you need to see him put up before you promote him?

Significant period of time.

When I last looked at his Daytona numbers he was something like 20th, behind a whole bunch of other corner position players, and some middle infielders. That's not dominating a league, and that's not any significant period of time either. I just don't see why he's a 20 year old in AA given his track record.

Once a guy hits AA, the calls to bring him to the majors start up. I just think he's so far from being a potential big leaguer, there's no reason why he can't still be in Daytona, slowly climbing the ladder (and that wouldn't even be slow).
