Kevin Gregg had a good outing yesterday.

2/3 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 2 K and a throwing error.

He's given up at least one hit in nine straight appearances and hasn't had a clean inning since May 9.

Would anyone trade Grabow for Gregg upfront if they were the Cubs GM and it was offered?

I am not sure, but I think Gregg is only signed for this year so I'd probably do it.

What I don't get is....most reasonable baseball men would agree that stuff like ERA and WHIP and SV/SV% and W-L are extremely variable statistics, even more so for relievers that pitch 80 innings or less. So if that is the case, why do people keep giving people like Gregg shots, when they have maybe 1.5 halfway decent seasons (on the surface). They fail for 3-4 years in a row and the next year another team gives them a NRI, and if they pitch ok in Spring they feel so tempted to keep that player over a rookie because of that experience factor. I just wonder if half of the mediocre relievers in the league over the age of 30 just disappeared randomly from the face of the earth and were replaced by that team's top pen arms in the minors, if the league's bullpen ERAs would change at all, up or down.

He's averaged 24 saves over the past 4 seasons. He has the "closer mentality" that managers and GMs love.

"Outside of Either or maybe Jason Heyward who has been a better everyday outfielder then Jonny Gomes?" - Thom Brennaman

Only about one guy from each team Thom.

Armando Galaraga has a perfect game thru 7 vs Cleveland

ESPN's got it on now if anyone is wondering.

I'm not sure whether to root for or against it. 3 in one month would be getting on the verge of ridiculous.

Edit: Perfect through 8. Grudz, Redmond and Jason Donald due up.

Not quite Wise saving Buehrle last year, but a great play by Jackson.

Jim Joyce now has a place in infamy.

I'd be pissed if I were the pitcher.

I'm actually slightly angry now. I don't care about the pitcher, the Tigers, or the Indians, but I care about the history that was taken from us tonight.

I think MLB has to reverse the umps decision. The runner is clearly out. Leyland and whoever needs to fly to major league baseball and demand they reverse the call and give Armondo the much earned perfect game.

MLB has never done that to my knowledge, even when the results of a World Series were on the line. They won't do it here. Especially Selig.

Somewhere, Bruce Froemming smiles while Milt Pappas throws a chair at his TV.

I've never seen that debated call in the Pappas game, but from what I hear it was a borderline pitch that could have gone either way. This one was a clear blown call, plain and simple.

They won't. They should. But they're scared of setting a precedent.

Oh, it's ok, he will apologize and nothing will happen to him. Meanwhile Armando Gallaraga got cheated from his career highlight.
