it's not about feeling sorry for the guy. Dude is clearly a toolbag, but that's not the point.

Cops have been using tasers on pretty much all sorts of non-compliant offenders for quite a while. If people can be tased for not getting out of their car during a traffic stop or resisting while drunk and disorderly, is it really that outrageous to be tased for busting on to the field to do god knows what? When you know you are being chased by cops?

I have no problem with this. In fact, I hope they post signs warning you will be tased if you come onto the field, and it is enforced. I don't think you'd see much of it anymore.

do we really see it that often in the first place? it happens, what, 3 times out of 4680 games per year? if that.

yes, but that means it happens once ever 14,500 innings!! It's a damn epidemic

I've seen it at least that many times already this year (or not seen it, but seen games delayed because of it), but that's beside the point. The force wasn't excessive, at least relative to what many people get tased for under "normal" circumstances.

Stay off the field and in the stands and you won't have to worry about getting tased.

I would love to see some dope run onto a football field sometime and have a middle linebacker just flatten the dude. That would be awesome.

and then see the linebacker arrested for assault?

Gotta love cops playing with their toys when they don't have to

The kid was fleeing arrest. The cop was well within his legal rights to use it. Cops are supposed to use the minimum amount of force necessary to end a conflict. Who knows how long the kid would have ran. The cop used a tazer and ended the situation as quickly as possible with as little force possible. I applaud him.

i'd like to see you get tazed and tell us all how that's "little force".

If I'm fleeing an arresting officer, (a) I would deserve to get tazed, (b) I would pray that I'd only get tazed instead of, you know, shot, and © I didn't say "little force", I said "as little possible." There's a difference. I have an uncle who's a cop and I know that every single interaction a cop has during his or her shift could be a dangerous one. Sure, we know now that the kid was unarmed. But he was resisting arrest in the form of running away-- he clearly was going to have no part of being arrested. Had the officers caught up to the kid and tackled him, they had no way of knowing at the time if the kid had a gun or a knife or some other sort of weapon on him to cause the officer harm. Using the tazer ended the conflict as quickly and as safely as possible for the officers and the players on the field, just like they're trained to do.

Geez, there would be people on here complaining if the kid was tackled and got a broken leg or something because of it. Then the cops would have been too rough with the precious little snowflake.

I find the overall lack of personal accountability in today's society deeply disturbing. He made a choice and he suffered the consequences. The cop wouldn't have used the tazer if the kid had stayed off of the field like he was supposed to. The kid is at fault here, not the cop.

I could have sworn there's a video of this happening out there somewhere. Maybe I dreamed it because of how awesome it sounds.

God that's so rad. I'm never one to harp on how awesome all those old-timey athletes were, but there's something magical to me about all the 30-year old white linebackers from back then. Today they'd all be doormen at a divebar, but back then they got to kill people for fun.

It's happened like 3 times this week.

Or if you like the scripted Terry Tate version:

I was watching the game at home and all of a sudden Al Hrabosky and Dan McLaughlin were saying how a fan was being tasered. Because of a MLB rule, they can't televise it. The best part was when Yadier Molina was grinning when he was batting. Also, the fan could have done something dangerous because he ran right next to Werth but cut throught CF instead of going into deep RF. The next night some fan ran onto the field in the top of the 9th when the Cards were AB and Hamels was about to throw a pitch but the fan delayed his delivery. Hamels ended up giving up back to back doubles which tied the game. The officer had no that the fan had no weapons on him, so I side with the police.

The cop had every right to use the taser in that situation and the doofus deserved to get tasered. But it would have been more impressive if the cop had Heather Locklear's nightstick skilz at 0:54:
