I've seen mention of Josh Childress, who played overseas last season. any thoughts?

He's really come a long way the last two years, and shot the lights out last year in the European league. If they miss out on Redick, I'd love to see the Bulls get him, but I think he'll want more than 7 mil per year to play in the NBA.

I just caught some of the press conference or whatever last night, and i really expected to be disgusted, but it kind of made me like those guys a little bit. I don't know, they just seemed like friends that really want to play together. Just so happens that they're 3 of the best in the game.

[expletive] them man!!!!!!!

*preparing to buy tickets when they came here*

oh man, i know. tickets down here were impossible to get for the lakers and cavs the last two years, but i can't imagine when the heat come to town.

Tickets in OKC should be selling out just to watch their own team play. I would pay to see Durant play before Wade and Bosh.

As for the Heat's salary structure...

None of James, Bosh or Wade signed for the max. James and Bosh are making $14.5M this year, Wade $14.2. Chalmers is the only other player on the roster, and his 2010 salary was $756,000.

That puts the Heat at about 44 mil in salary, while needing another 8 players to fill a roster. So, they have a total of 14 million to spend on 8 guys.

If the Miller contract for 5/$30 is evenly spread, that leaves 8 million for 7 players.

Based on my calculations and assumptions, they have a little over 6M for 7 players, and with the minimum roster holds, the most they could spend on any one player is about 3.3M

The one large assumption is that they retain Joel Anthony for his QO. If they were to renounce him, they could spend almost 4 on another player still. The other assumption being that Miller's contract is backloaded as much as they can (and assuming it isn't a S&T which could allow them to backload it more)

Heat have targeted Juwan Howard for $1.4 million minimum.

They have also invited Derek Fisher to Miami where he was greeted by LeBron himself at the airport.

"Hey Derek, you should take 1/3 the salary and play with us. We all make sacrifices."

I'm interested to see what else they have up their sleeve. They will want to use all of their available cap space before they start handing out the minimum contracts because the contracts will take up more space than the holds for them and they'd essentially be wasting cap space. I'm sure they'd like to get Fisher or anyone else to commit soon.

Very interesting. He's 27, but I think he can still develop into a pretty good scorer (16-18ppg). He actually averaged 11 ppg as a kid in Atlanta before he went to Europe, so you know he can play a little in the NBA. I think he's going to be very expensive though as he was making good money in Greece.

I would find this so friggin hilarious if Miami do sign Howard.

So far they are 0-1 at signing him. Try it again 11 years later?

Well, the Lakers were offering him a massive pay cut.

I would love to get Josh Childress. His length and versatility would be welcome.

So much for them not adding depth though right? #-o

Of the complimentary players Miami are signing or trying to sign, the only one that is any good is Mike Miller. Fisher and Howard are "just bodies" at this point their career. So I'm not worried about the Heat depth.

Udonis Haslem is hardly "just a body".

Whomever they sign, it will be very interesting.

We are about to see how important a "role player" in the NBA really is.

There really has been no precedent for this. I'm as curious as anyone.

I didn't say Haslem, either. I mention only Fisher and Howard as being "just a body."

I understand that but it isn't just those 2  Besides, I'm willing to bet the only reason Derek is talking to Miami is to get a bigger contract from the Lakers. Howard is whatever, he'll fit in as a rotational guy and the hack-a-Howard guy. Brad Miller is ok, Shaq is meh, James Jones will be coming back, Raja Bell would be a nice signing, Dorrell Wright wouldn't be bad at all but he's about to get paid to Golden State, Joel Anthony will be coming back as the center without a doubt, Magliore probably as a backup as the rookies will fill it out.

Which is why I am not scared of their depth.

Have you heard how much Fisher is being offered by the Lakers? He was making $5M this year and even if they asked him to take half, I'd guess the $2.5M would still be more than what the Heat would offer him.

I really hope Fish doesn't go to the Heat.

Oh ok.. Good to know a team with 3 superstars needs more help than a big man and a 3 point shooter...

He'd fit in nicely with the Heat. He's good at that knocking down the open shot thing which is basically what he'd have every time he touches the ball when he actually gets on the court.

They do need help, regardless of their talent. All three can't play 48 minutes a game for 82 games a year.

Considering the real story about how Fisher left Utah, Fisher would fit with the other liars, creeps, and jerks in Miami.

True, but all 3 of them won't be on the bench at the same time of a close game so it really is a moot point. 1-2 of them will be able to succeed with the likes of a Miller, Wright and Bell.
