Apparently the Redick deal is frontloaded in order to make it difficult for the Magic to match. Redick is another great shooter that doesn't play much defense. Would be nice to get a defensive guard.

Yeah, they're really putting Thibodeaux's wizardry to the test if it's gonna be Redick/Korver and Rose as perimeter defenders.

I think my biggest concern at this point is with the team they've assembled to this point, Noah is going to play about 20 mins a game due to foul trouble. They still need some kind of a backup option at center, and hopefully a solid defensive option at guard.

EDIT: Although I do like how the Redick deal is structured, since the Bulls had cap space to play with and the Magic don't. Even if Orlando matches, they're paying over 14 million for Redick this year.

Ric Bucher: Don't get too pumped, Bulls' fans, on Redick -- nothing official from Orl, but other GMs expect Magic to match. Twitter

not unless they make a trade to clear up some salary. I'm pretty sure they are in luxury taxville. if they match the bulls offer of 7 million that first year, they'll end up paying him 12-13 million dollars once you factor in the lux tax. They have 6 days....

Redick actually is pretty decent on the defensive end. I know he'll always have that sissy white guy stigma from his college days, but by most accounts he's worked hard to get stronger and better on defense. Orlando was actually using him as a defensive sub late in the year.

Don't get me wrong, Redick at 7 million is so much better than Ben Gordon at 11 million because Redick is probably better on both ends than Ben at this point. He's still not what I'd consider an excellent defensive option, since he had a 107 defensive rating for a team that had a 104, meaning he was worse than the team average when he was on the floor. Granted, the team was decent defensively (better than the Bulls at 106), I just don't want to see Noah in constant foul trouble due to the team's inability to cut off a dribbler.

He's not horrible like Korver is, but he's still undersized and overpowered by bigger 2Gs in the East. But he moves his feet and positions himself pretty well.

As for the Heat's salary structure...

None of James, Bosh or Wade signed for the max. James and Bosh are making $14.5M this year, Wade $14.2. Chalmers is the only other player on the roster, and his 2010 salary was $756,000.

That puts the Heat at about 44 mil in salary, while needing another 8 players to fill a roster. So, they have a total of 15 million to spend on 8 guys.

I'm guessing Asik is the backup plan at center

While Redick is a nice bench player, he is nothing to get excited over.

The Bulls were a playoff team that was 28th in 3pt%. Redick will get all the shots that Hinrich couldn"t knock down. He'

s a good fit for a team lacking outside shooting and trying to take a step forward.

If Reddick returns to Orlando, are there any other shooters out there? Someone posted that Morrow is already gone.

And they need someone who can play defense.

Ronnie Brewer or Matt Barnes to play defense. I'm almost positive that we'll sign one of those guys.

Trade for Jamal Crawford?

I don't see the magic paying 14M for Redick....

"Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith told the Orlando Sentinel early Saturday he "anticipates" matching the Bulls' three-year, $19 million offer to restricted free agent J.J. Redick.

The Magic have seven days to match the offer, which the Tribune reported is front-loaded at $7 million. With the Magic already in luxury tax territory, matching that offer would cost the Magic a dollar-for-dollar penalty and a total of $14 million.

"I anticipate us doing it, but I'm not sure," Smith told the Sentinel. "It's too early. We'll talk about it."

The Bulls' $7 million of salary-cap space representing the first year of the Redick offer is tied into the offer until the Magic either chooses to match it or not. But the Bulls feel other shooting guard targets like Ronnie Brewer or Keith Bogans will be available seven days from now, when the Magic make their final decision.

Redick, the 11th pick in the 2006 draft, made a little over $3 million last season."

I just caught some of the press conference or whatever last night, and i really expected to be disgusted, but it kind of made me like those guys a little bit. I don't know, they just seemed like friends that really want to play together. Just so happens that they're 3 of the best in the game.

Bulls might have three Dukies starting this year?

I know its a really horrible thought, but something we must all stomach.

sure he is. the bulls were a terrible outside shooting team last year and that's what he brings. they were a pretty good mid-range team already, they're decent on the interior defensively if not offensively and they're maybe the best rebounding team in basketball.

i think the bulls win at least 50 this year and redick and korver will be a big part of it.

Also, the Heat don't get an MLE until next year, so there's no way they're getting all these decent players. The only players they're getting are players that agree to play for the minimum.

How do the MLE's work in terms of salary and years received? Does it have to be for five years as I think Mike Miller was offered and what Ron Artest was offered last year?

If they match Reddick, they might want to dump some extra salary.

Mickael Pietrus to Chicago? We throw in something like a future 2nd rounder or the rights to someone like Mario Austin, and Orlando gets a TPE out of it, obviously.

Pietrus plays good D and hits the 3 ball at a respectable enough %. He's on a fair deal too. Just need a guy who can play some backup minutes at PG, perhaps a combo guard like Mason Jr, and we have more than enough to do that and still retain Miller.

Rose/Mason

Pietrus/Mason/Korver

Deng/Korver/Johnson

Boozer/Gibson/Johnson

Noah/Asik/Miller

Nobody thought, including Marcin, that Orlando would Gortat's offer sheet and they did. I know he has a cheaper contract, but still the possibility is there. Personally I think the Magic are going to use all 7 days and try and make the Bulls sweat. Difference though, the Bulls don't have to sit around and wait for this situation to clear up. The Bulls still have some money that is not tied into Redick to continue shopping for players.
