All these Hispanics are ruining MLB. Manny and now Edison. I want to go back to the good ole days.

Instead of banning PEDs, we should just ban hispanics and alieviate 98% of the problem, amirite?

Edit: BTW, this was sarcasm

Can you serve a suspension while on the DL? I assume Volquez is on the 60 day DL, which would leave him a few days shy of being able to be "activated"

I don't think you can serve while on the DL, at least with short team suspensions. I remember there was a big argument about Kerry Wood back in 04 and how he was injured and still had to serve 5 games after he was healthy enough to pitch. I think Barrett had the same issue back in 06 after decking AJ Eyechart. I don't think theres a way to prove or enforce that but I think if it's sketchy timing, the league is going to be on you for it.

The easy workaround for that would be to declare he is now healthy enough to pitch and activate him.

Volquez said in a statement he received a prescription in the Dominican Republic as part of treatment to start a family with his wife. He said the drug was banned by Major League Baseball.

"As a result, I tested positive when I reported to spring training," he said. "Although I understand that I must accept responsibility for this mistake and have chosen not to challenge my suspension, I want to assure everyone that this was an isolated incident involving my genuine effort to treat a common medical issue."

wonder what the hell he is referring to.

Dusty ruined him by using him too much. Can't get it done anymore without help.

Sure if that was legal but I am pretty sure that once you are placed on the DL you must remain out for at least that number of days. I know a player can stay on the DL for a longer period of time but I almost certain they can't come off early. You can also retroactively move someone from the 15 day to the 60 day but not visa versa.

Maybe it was the HCG, same as Manny. It's supposed to spur production of testosterone in the nether-regions.

That's true. I'm not aware if he's currently on the 15 or 60. They normally don't move someone to the 60 if there is plenty of room on the 15, however. If he's only on the 15, he could be activated pretty soon, I would think, as it could be retroactive to the start of the season.

There's no limit to the # of guys you can have on the 15 day DL. (Yeah I know if you had 16 guys on it, you'd only have 24 on your active roster) Players placed on the 60 day DL don't count towards 40 man roster totals.

Right. Thus, the only reason to transfer him to the 60 day is if they needed another guy added to the 40 man roster due to someone else likely being placed on the 15 day.

Regardless, his suspension should not start until he is able to play. It's just not a suspension if he's sitting out anyway. It would be similar to suspending a pitcher for 100 days, but letting him serve out the 100 days between starts. Maybe they can just start their suspensions once their seasons are officially declared as over, that way no one ever misses a game ever again for violating league policies. :yahoo:

If I was Brandon Webb I would start juicing right now. You're on the 60 day dl anyway. Might as well get right.

Yeah, kind of shows how silly it would be to allow injured players to serve their suspensions while they are hurt.

I don't know if it could be done, but the way around that is to suspend him after he pitches at least one full inning in his next game. It would effectively take him out until August.

I imagine the union and/or the Reds would balk at that.

That's what I was trying to say. Technically I think it could happen but the MLB would not take kindly to it.

Honest queston here, where does Mark Prior fall in this. Can he juice now to get healthy and get a new contract? If so, what the hell is he waiting for?

Well I think getting caught using a masking agent or whatever Manny got caught using gives you a different public perception than getting caught with a crapload of steroids in your system.

Also, I don't know maybe he prefers living a long time to forcing a return to baseball.

I don't think there's a pill/injection that can magically make Mark Prior stay healthy.

Maybe the problem with the Cubs is that they don't use PEDs.

Or maybe they haven't learned the proper trickeration to get away with it.

Maybe we need to produce som ELearning lessons for our PED-less Cubbies.

everyone PRAY for Carpenter/Wainwright

Yeah, then the Cards would only win the division by 12 games instead of 18.

You mean 20 instead of 18

The scrubs they call up will inexplicably throw shutouts
