It's not that he's playing poorly by his standards as much as that he's botching the simple play. He was flubbing the puck like crazy.

He kept wiping out randomly too when had the puck. I don't know if that's just a coincidence or whatever, but it looked really odd to see a hockey player just trip over himself multiple times in a game.

I'm just not liking the Hawks defense in this game. The way they've had trouble clearing and making really bad turnovers reminds me of how they played in March.

The Flyers defense, on the other hand, has looked ridiculously good. I can't say enough good things about them.

They've had trouble clearing the puck all series. Probably because of the Flyers fore check and it seems like they try to make home run passes that aren't there.

Well at least tonight we had 3 D's play well with 7/2/51. Campbell especially had his best game of the series by far. If Hammer is decent it's clearly a completely different game. Boynton played pretty well all things considered and wasn't a dropoff compared to Hendry. Sopel was about what you'd expect.

I have to think we're going to start to get to some of those pucks left in front of the net. The faster team with basically the same amount of physicality just has to start winning some of those battles.

For Game 5, the key just has to be to stop pooping your pants in the face of the forecheck and a physical game. Turnovers and bad penalties are the problems, but they are huge problems and not easy to solve.

If the Blackhawks stay out of the box and can clear their own zone consistently, they should look pretty good. But they haven't come close to proving they can do that.

Flyers and Blackhawks have played five games this season. All five have been won by the home team, and the game-winning goals have come one late in the second period, three in the third period and one in overtime.

Can we petition that the people holding Game 5 tickets just give away their tickets to fans that will actually get behind the team and make supportive noise for the Hawks? I would like to stray far away from what happened during Game 1 and Game 2 of the NLDS in 2008.

what would you guys put the odds at for the rest of this series?

i'd say 55/45 in favor of the flyers.

I honestly don't know what to think. I am kinda shellshocked. Going from winning 10 out of 11 games to this, it doesn't seem real. I'm still thinking 50/50 only because we have home ice. Hopefully that means something.

i wish we were just playing the penguins or somebody that wasn't a huge underdog heading into the series. i could handle losing like that. but losing to michael leighton and the flyers? nightmare scenario for sure.

i keep going back and forth between trying to convince myself that we're in good shape, and trying to convince myself that we're done so it wont hurt as bad if/when we're actually eliminated. i don't know what to feel.

strongly considering not watching game 5 (dont know if i can take it), but i dont know what i could do during that time that would keep me from checking the score. maybe i'll get wasted tomorrow night, stay up until like noon, and then pass out until midnight and then wake up and check the score

I'm going the other way, f**k all the doom and gloom sh*t, the Hawks found their legs last night, the effects of the long layoff have worn off. For all the talk about the Flyers' supposed greatness one singular truth remains their goal tending sucks and a Hawks team with their legs back is going to exploit that tomorrow.

I was at both. And still have nightmares.

That was absolutely soul crushing. For some stupid reason, I still think we're going to win the series, but I got suckered into thinking this was going to be a cakewalk after the first two games.

Really though, we win Sunday and it's back in our hands. No need to call it over right now, though you certainly can call it over if we lose Sunday.

I'd rather have split the home and away games. Now I feel like there's no stopping Philly. They have too much momentum.

Hopefully the Flyers get over-confident and cocky they way the Hawks did

There's no such thing as game-to-game momentum.

Agreed. Philly did what they had to do. And if the series plays out like it has in the first 4 games, then the Hawks will be brining home Lord Stanley.

It sucks not splitting, not it's not the end of the world.

I've decided that I am confident there will be no Game 7 in this series. Basically whoever wins tomorrow will finish it off in game 6. Even though we haven't won in Philly since Bill Clinton was president (seriously), I am not scared of winning there if we can take back the momentum with a win tomorrow.

OK, I'm gonna stop thinking of the Blackhawks, I've been doing good today.

A nice article going over the penalty minutes disparity between the two teams.

http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-blackhawks-one-goal/2010/06/i-hate-to-be-the-guy-that-brings-up-the-officiating-but.html

So far in this series, the Hawks have served 36 penalty minutes. The Flyers, meanwhile, have served 22 penalty minutes. Neither number includes the 10 minute game misconducts to Pronger and Eager after game 2.

That's a pretty big difference in four games, but it gets even worse when you consider each team's track record. Let's take a look at the regular season, and before you dismiss regular season stats as useless, remember that it is an 82-game sample size for a team's tendencies.

In the regular season, Philadelphia ranked 2nd in the entire NHL in penalty minutes behind only Tampa Bay. The Hawks, meanwhile, ranked 25th in the NHL in penalty minutes.

On a game by game basis, the Flyers averaged 16.6 penalty minutes a game in the regular season compared to the Hawks' 11.3.

Even if you don't want to look at the regular season, just look at the rest of the playoffs: Even after 4 games in which the Hawks have racked up 14 more penalty minutes than the Flyers, Phiadelphia still leads the playoffs in total penalty minutes.

So how does a team that, on average, sits in the box for 5 more minutes per night than another team suddenly become angels in comparison?

Despite all the hysterics here, winning Game 5 puts the Blackhawks back in control of the series. Yeah I wish they had at least split in Philly but oh well. Obviously the Flyers are a tough opponent and playing at a level beyond a 7th seed. Sure it would be nice to just roll through them in 4 or 5 games to win a Cup but nobody said it was gonna be easy. I still have the faith. :hello:
