His first line invalidates his whole opinion. He's lived in Chicago for 5 years.

it's because chicago is a metropolis, not a suburb, not a burnt-out rustbucket ghost-town with one positive distinction, not a french-canadian one-sport town (sorry, two sport, if you count smoking cigarettes while sitting in cafes as a sport).

How dare you dismiss the Alouettes.

my cousin has been contacted by them and the winnipeg blue bombers. they're offering 30,000 a year (CANADIAN!), a car, lodging, and a cell phone for 6 months or something like that.

High of 82 on Sunday in Chicago. Anyone know of any good patios/rooftops to watch the game at? Preferably in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview area.

Watching hockey outside in Chicago means something special is happening.

Kirkwoods is my favorite beer garden with pretty decent flatscreens. I've watched Bears games there in the early fall. Justins is another beergarden with TVs, but the TVs are not that great there. They are small and all situated at the actual bar and not really easy to see from most of the outdoor seats. There's also a ton in just the immediate Wrigleyville area. Murphy's for one has a huge semi-outdoor area, also that place right next to the Cubby Bear has a big outdoor section. With the weather the wya it is, many of those bars have huge windows that slide open and make it feel like your outside even though you're still inside.

Duh - Kirkwoods is a great beer garden. Forgot about that big TV back there. I have a feeling that's where I'll be.

Four Shadows on Diversey and Ashland opens all their windows up like that, if you want to be in Lakeview but a little distance from Wrigley. On a side note, it's tough to in Boston with all the excitment about the Blackhawks running through my system, since everyone here flat out refuses to recognize hockey as a sport after last weekend...

Welcome to the board! Screw Boston...one of their teams lose and they have another championship contender waiting for them. I've been waiting 13 years for another champion in Chicago (at least the teams that count).

Why do many of the analysts keep looking for reasons the Hawks are up 2-0 other than the Hawks are the better team? Engblom last night - "Toews and Kane are no better than Zetterberg and Datsuyk why can't the Sharks handle them?" - that may be so but, Mr. Engblom, the Blackhawks are better than the Red Wings.

I doubt he got two creds...but you can rest assured I'm going to ask. One way or another, it should mean some cool content for the site.

If he somehow gets 2, I knew 312 would pay off eventually!

uuuggh, Lawrence Holmes is busy drumming up calls tonight by declaring the WCF over.

I actually really like Holmes. But he's definitely good at saying some stuff to get people riled up when he wants to. For me, you can tell when he's being genuine and when he's just trying to attract listeners.

San Jose Sharks simply aren't as good as Chicago Blackhawks

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and disagree with that sentiment. It's pretty easy to jump on the Sharks because they've lost a couple games at home and are now at a disadvantage. But here's why I think the Sharks still have a chance:

1) I've watched the Sharks put tons of pressure on the Hawks in these first 2 games. They've skated with the Hawks up and down the ice. They've applied solid hits. They haven't looked "outplayed" to me. Niemi has so far weathered those times rather well, which is great for the Hawks, but I've got to figure if they keep that up a couple more goals will make it past. The Sharks have actually generated more shots than the Hawks in more than one period of play (not sure about the overall totals).

2) A couple goals from the Hawks seemed to me to be more of a product of a goal tender not playing his best rather than great net pressure from the Hawks. I'm thinking of the Ladd shot in game 2, and the Big Buff shot in game 1. It wouldn't be beyond imagination to think that Nabokov will shut down those opportunities in future games, leading to tighter games, which means a better opportunity for the Sharks to win.

3) Again, it needs to be mentioned: Hawks have not played well at home. They've simply been a much better road team this year in the playoffs, for whatever reason. If the Sharks win a couple at the United Center because the Hawks play like they have in their 2 previous series, this entire series looks much different.

That's my non-expert observer's opinion. Obviously the Hawks could win Friday night and make all of that stuff seem silly. But right now, at this moment -- I still believe it is premature to make overall statements about which team is better or how the series will end up.

i don't think the ladd goal was as soft as people are making it out to be. ladd let it fly at the exact right time, late enough to not get blocked, and early enough so as to not allow nabokov to pick it up. i don't think nabby ever saw it.

Buff's shot in game 1 is really tough to criticize. Criticize the defense for giving him too much time? Sure. Nabby though? That's a really great save if he makes it -- Buff uncorked a very hard slap shot from the slot at the top of the circles (about 35 feet from the goal), between two defenders.

Odds to win the Stanley Cup that I've seen online today: Blackhawks -200 or 2-to-3, which iirc are the same thing, and either way means we are currently favored over the rest of the field combined.

ehhh it looked like he missed it. shots from that high without a screen directly in front should be stopped though. i saw it time and time again with jon quick, he would go down too early on shots from out high and have it go over his glove. it's not a HORRIBLE goal as it was a perfectly placed shot, but you really need that save if you're the sharks. they came out and controlled the play pretty well, but still ended up giving up the first goal. that's always a killer.
