obviously i was talking about the fact that whatever chance he had an NFL career was flushed away when he decided to spend all this time playing baseball. he's not the type of athlete that can just pick football back up and be nfl caliber.

I disagree. He's a receiver, not a QB. He could easily go back to playing football at a high level.

jeff samardzija should be thanking his lucky stars that he's from notre dame and not the dominican republic, as he'd be getting his ass run out of town and quick.

what in the world makes you think this? his body has to be nowhere near football shape, and as a white guy, he's at a disadvantage as a no-qb skill position guy, anyway.

In the end, hes basically a worse version of Kyle Farnsworth.

Kyle Farnsworth had a ton of movement on his pitches.

Farnsworth's FB was straight as an arrow, he flashed a good slider at times but it never developed into an out pitch, and had a so-so 3rd pitch (lack of control splitter).

He threw such a high % of FBs that were high velo straight FBs with up and down command, I don't see how one can say he had a ton of movement on his pitches.

they move really fast over the fence once the batter makes contact with them.

Because WR is a simple position. He can't play in a game tomorrow. But give him some offseason conditioning to work on his football moves and it would be simple. Guys go from minor league baseball players to college football all the time. Guys miss seasons with devestating injuries and still come back. Players go on freaking mormon missions and go back to football, or from selling insurance or delivering for UPS. Samardzija hasn't exactly turned to a fat slob. I think he could easily transition. He's in his early 20's.

Do the Bears have somebody that can get people out?

We have players who can take people out, Farnsworth-style.

What do you think he runs now that he's been working on his fastball (lol) for 4 years? A 4.8? Football teams are really dying to add those 4.8 40-running white WRs that haven't played competitive football in 4 years.

He's not going to make an NFL roster this summer. But I really don't think it would be that hard for him to get back close to what he would have been had he never left. It would be a lot easier than not pitching for 4 years and then trying to do that.

I'm not sure what his timed speed is, but his college football career was productive enough that I would think he'd at least get a look from someone. Maybe he'd fail miserably, I don't know.

I wonder what he'd look like bulked up.

It's not like he has to turn into a linebacker.

I was thinking maybe pass-catching TE. It looked like he had decent hands in college.

I hear Cutler's got an arm. But he also has the Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn thing going for him....so.....
