If Coble chooses grad school, can't he play another year?

He'd need to petition the NCAA for a medical hardship waiver seeing as he already used his redshirt last season. I doubt he'd get it, even if he wanted to, and it doesn't sound like he would

jerrance howard is apparently interviewing for the head job at uic.

He'd be what they need to solve their recruiting problems, but I don't know if he's ready from a x and o's perspective yet. With that said people have noticed what he's done, and he won't be at Illinois much longer. If he's going to leave I would not be opposed to UIC because it would allow him to continue to build strong recruiting ties to the Chicago area, which he could then bring back to UIUC when Bruce retires or is fired.

He already said that he won't be playing at another school.

There are some reports saying that his passion for the game isn't what it once was. Considering his rehab process up until this point hasn't included any basketball activity, I suppose now would be the best time to make that decision if that is the case.

I think it'd be a terrible move for him. Jimmy Collins was way more established in recruiting Chicago when he went there and it didn't get him very far.

The University of Illinois in Chicago isn't going to hire Jerrance unless the University of Illinois is ok with it.

blocking howard from getting a head coaching job would be a huge mistake.

I can understand the University not wanting Howard to leave to be an assistant somewhere else, but blocking the guys shot at a chance to run his own program borders on insane. He's in demand, and this is a good thing. He branches out and develops, and then comes home when Bruce leaves. If he leaves I think Harrington fills the assistant role, with Chester being hired as video coordinator / whatever Harrington's title is now.

Oh I agree, but I think if he goes it won't be like he isn't ever coming back.

this is an incredibly unfortunate time to lose him, though.

it seems like the illini get out of the [expletive], and then something miserable happens.

For those not watching Big Ten football media day, Delany said that football divisions will not necessarily have any impact on other sports, including basketball. Each sport will figure it out independently. Some will likely have divisions, which may differ from those in football, and others sports will not.

That makes it sound like they're not going straight geographically for football. I don't like it.

He didn't say anything else to indicate that other than the fact they're going to look at 27 different metrics going back to 1993 to figure out the competitive balance portion of the equation.

This wasn't one if his main points but rather a response to a question. If they're going to have a strong geographic component for football, it will because they want that for football. It just won't have any effect on what they do in other sports.

Sounds like Governor Pelosi forced them to include women's sports prestige after all.

Any of you Illinois guys know about Macari Brooks? Apparently his coach tweeted that he's going to Iowa. '11 guard with offers from Marquette, DePaul, Providence.

Fast and good. However there's some issues with him switching schools because of attitude problems I believe. A good get for Iowa.

In other news, both Anthony Davis (top 10 nationally) and Mike Shaw (top 50-100) both on campus at DePaul this week. Getting those 2 would be like the Q Richardson class in 1998. Needless to say, DePaul fans should be excited.

Sounds like the coach jumped the gun on twitter a little bit. He said "Grades and God willing, Iowa is where it's at for Macari Brooks." Apparently there's strong mutual interest and he's visiting but nothing about a commitment yet.

Also saw that Josh Ogelsby trimmed his list to 4: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Arizona State.
