I'm not remotely surprised. FSU was a hideous matchup for Notre Dame, and it didn't help that just like in Morgantown, the game was more or less officiated like a football game.

Kudos to the Noles. They played about as well as it was possible for them to play for about the first 25 minutes, and that was more than enough.

Same for Purdue. They couldn't handle anything that VCU threw at them and matched up poorly based on size and strength. Good thing there aren't many Butler fans around to talk trash about owning Indiana right now.

I've been a Butler fan since I was a little kid - I used to go play ball at Hinkle Fieldhouse. I'm a fan of all Indiana college basketball though. And instead of owning Indiana its more like; "Well, we still have Butler." Of course that could change like it did last year when Butler merchandise started covering Indianapolis like I had never seen it before. So all they have to do is make it to the Final 4 year after year and they'll start to close the gap between their fanbase and IU/Purdue.

I really want to see the IU job open up in a few years and have Stevens tell them to [expletive] off.

ETA: Stevens would say it in a far more dignified and classy manner than I just did.

I imagine he would hold that press conference sipping on a glass of cognac and smoking a corncob pipe.

When asked if he would ever leave Butler, Stevens replied "I guess if they kicked me out."

i'll also say that KU got a lot of calls in the second half because they are KU and we are UI. that didn't help, the refs had probably never even heard of the university of illinois before the game. they went with what they knew.

I don't want to make this about Illinois not being slighted by an outside force, but that wouldn't have been as much of an issue if McCamey and Tisdale didn't suck so badly. McCamey was terrible, and that plays were run for Tisdale over and over and over when he was so over matched inside and clearly couldn't hit anything about gave me an aneurysm.

I'm not trying to be illiniguy here, but Bruce's loyalty to his seniors really hurt us last night. Cole and Davis were fine, but DMac and Tisdale just killed us.

The problem is the only other one doing any scoring was DJ, and he took 13 shots. Only one who seemed to deserve more tick/opportunities was Head, and I think that's a really tough call to sit McCamey for him.

McCamey was a more difficult situation to address, but there wasn't much of an excuse to keep feeding Tisdale in the post so he could continue to brick his little hook shots. It became painfully clear pretty early into the second half that he had no touch last night, and Tisdale with no touch is totally worthless.

Something else should have at least been tried, but it wasn't, really.

It's all conjecture and sophistry now, but I think we all take solace in the fact that we won't have to see them in uniform anymore.

when leonard was in the game and he caught the ball in the post, he'd take a couple of dribbles, back one of the morris twins down, and they'd flop and he'd get the foul. on the other end, he'd get called because he didn't flop. i guess you have to know when to slide on the floor for no reason.

That's the one thing I'll give Tisdale credit for yesterday, I want to say he drew 3 charges in the span of about 5 minutes.

That Leonard charge was truly awful, he was backing up in slow motion, and one of the gunmen just collapsed to the ground.

I like Stevens but it [expletive] sucks as an Iowa fan because it's a constant reminder of what we thought we were getting and how far away it was. Lickliter came and brought 2 assistants from there. The one guy who stayed is now a ridiculously good coach, good recruiter and just a great guy who is really interesting and cool as hell.

Instead we got a coach who didn't want to talk to anyone and didn't enjoy recruiting. Instead of overlooked diamonds in the rough we just somehow got guys who weren't athletic but also couldn't shoot and weren't smart. And even though they sucked they were still babies who thought they should be playing more. The token black guys that came in had no idea how to play.

It was during his Iowa tenure that Pearl illegally recorded a phone conversation with recruit Deon Thomas about Thomas' recruitment by rival Illinois. Pearl turned the recording over to the NCAA, which investigated and after finding the tape to be edited by Pearl, and seeing no evidence there was any wrongdoing by Illinois, panicked and uncovered unrelated frivolous recruiting violations by Illinois.

Hopefully Bruce and his loser son have a murder suicide in their future

Damn. Weren't you like 3 years old when that all went down?

Pearl is a piece of [expletive] to be sure, but that's a lot of venom for someone who was just a kid when it happened.

It's really not considering it completely derailed the program for nearly 10 years.

I don't know what happened to him. But I think it says a lot about the structure Collier and Matta put in place before he took the head coaching gig.

Yes, Bruce Pearl is the reason the Illinois program was dirty as [expletive] in the 80's. What he did was pretty damn [expletive], but come on.

Anywho, Mbakwe must like the police.

http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/118341934.html

What he did, along with Digger Phelps was lie to NCAA investigators(along with coercing Laphonso Ellis into lying for them) about what Illinois was doing for their own betterment. Death is too easy an option for this piece of [expletive].

Look up the ruling Bob. Tell me what was dirty as [expletive] about Illinois basketball. Ask Deon's grandma who offered the Blazer. Ask Deon's friend who was paying him to visit with Deon. Check Deon's lie detector. Who was dirty as [expletive] in this recruitment???

"Just because we couldn't find any evidence doesn't mean they're not guilty"

The most mind-blowing finding of "guilt" I've ever seen.

I wasn't even alive when the whole Hitler thing went down. Still not a fan of his.

What I'm saying is Bruce Pearl = Hitler

Ignore the Pearl incident for a minute and look at what else was going on with the program. They had already been busted with 2 major violations in 5 years.

Under a previous football regime.

I have a hard time blaming too much of the responsibility of Kiffen on Tennessee. They deserve some, but her deserves more.
