Today's Blogging the Bracket S-Curve has 14 at larges below Mizzou. They've lost 2 in a row, but won 5 straight prior to that(although to be fair, you're talking if that losing streak extended to 4). They were 28th in the RPI before last night. Their worst loss is @Nebraska, who is in the Top 80 in RPI, so they don't have any truly bad losses. Even if they lost out, it would take a pretty insane run by a LOT of bubble teams to knock them out of the tournament. They're in.

Lunardi has them a 7-seed playing Marquette, with Purdue waiting in the next round. That's a nasty draw.

Yeah, Marquette and Purdue in Chicago is borderline nightmare fuel. Of course, in his bracket we can't play Illinois' 10 seed and we can't play Texas' 2 seed in the next round, so the alternative is Michigan State and Notre Dame in Chicago(what's with the 10 seeds getting home games?), which is legitimately nightmare fuel.

Baffling. The guy has all the time in the world at ISU and he's acting like he has to make a big run in 2012/2013 or it's curtains.

Outside of White he's bringing in JAG's. The SIU kid sucks and Babb and Allen are average. Luscious kind of sucks and you're tying up 2 years of scholarship so he can give you 1 likely mediocre year.

I don't get it.

yeah, they should save all those scholarships for 5'9", 145 pound white kids from fort dodge.

and booker doesn't really suck.

and allen logged some substantial minutes for a pretty good mich state team and hit 40% of his 3's. i'm pretty sure the hawkeyes would take him.

Wasn't aware it was an either/or. He has NBA GM's on speed dial man, right? He can find players.

You're right. Booker racked up3.5 and 3.5 as a freshman and 6 and 4 as a sophomore while turning it over a bunch. In a one-bid league. He's awesome.

BYU getting greased by New Mexico at home. They're down 16, but it's only halftime so I guess they can come back.

didn't say he was awesome, but i don't think he sucks. he was a top 100 recruit, if i'm not mistaken. and it's not like he's going to be the centerpiece of the team. he'll probably be their 7th/8th man.

I vehemently disagree -- especially relative to Iowa freakin' State -- that Allen is average and Lucious kind of sucks. Vehemently.

yeah, i mean, i don't think sullinger is going to transfer to iowa state. they have to take what they can get.

white was a big time prospect, allen could start for any B12 team, babb and booker are role players. what do you expect?

They can probably kiss a 1 seed goodbye if they don't turn this thing around.

I kept waiting for Booker to show me something and he never really did. He had one game where he had 15 and 10 last year, but he quickly went back to irrelevancy after that.

He's a pretty unmotivated guy too. Of course, I'm sure quite a bit of that had to do with the head coach he was playing for.

White was totally worth it for them. What I don't understand is taking risks and tying up scholarships for role players. It's not like Izzo kicks guys off the team or pushes them out often. They obviously have baggage and is 1 year worth it?

Luscious was shooting 28% from 3 and 36% from 2 while having by far the worst turnover rate of their guards. He sucked. Last year he shot 32% from 3 and 39% from 2 while having an awful turnover rate. He's really not very good. They could find someone at his level that can give them more than one year. Booker wasn't good in two years in the MVC. Babb is just a spot up shooter.

Hoiberg has as long of a rebuilding leash as anyone in the country but he's acting like a guy in dire need of a quick fix.

role players can certainly be worth a scholarship. and again, it's iowa state. it's not like they're doling out scholarships to role players and turning away mcdonald's all americans.

Best way to attract recruits is by coaching a good team. Best way to coach a good team is having good players. It's risky, but as it was said, it's ISU, it's not an outrageous plan.

BYU is 5 of 27 from 3-point range. I wonder how far they'll drop? Voters had to have been looking for an excuse to drop them when Davies was booted. Now they've been stomped at home by Alford.

Sounds like things evened out from going 14-24 on Saturday against SDSU. Also, they're now 0-2 against New Mexico this year.

Reports are that the honor code violation that got Davies kicked off was that he had sexual relations with his girlfriend. Definitely a no-no at BYU. Their honor code is so restrictive that even drinking coffee or tea is a violation.

Yea, I saw that. Pretty crazy rule, but they have been in place forever and the players know what the rules are and agree to follow them in order to attend school/be on scholarship/play sports.

Wait, what? Wow that's pretty insane.
