2013 SG Kendall Stephens committed to Purdue today (he had offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and DePaul). Interesting coming a day after Purdue beat Illinois. PG Bryson Scott had already committed for 2013. I believe they'll both be 4 Star guys.

Stephens' dad played for Purdue too... I'm sure that didn't hurt...

I'm sure that DePaul didn't really have a strong shot of getting him, but damn you for stealing him away from DePaul. We need him a lot more than you!

I was looking at some recruiting stuff last night and DePaul has a bunch of offers out to top players. Stephens had ties to Purdue and Weber so I think it was always going to be one of the two. Is DePaul ever going to get an arena on campus?

Have you ever been to Lincoln Park? Not happening unless they want to buy about 100 multi million dollar properties, have them rezoned, and have a bunch of millionaires agree to it.

Maybe something by the Kennedy between North and Fullerton, but not technically on campus.

Yeah, I used to live in Lincoln Park...

"The Finkl Steel Company is relocating to the south side of Chicago and their current location at Clybourn and Cortland is within walking distance of DePaul's Lincoln Park campus. An 8,000-10,000 seat arena is something that the university higher ups are considering. Real estate experts that I contacted today told me that the Finkl property is intriguing because it may not be suitable for residential use due to In addition, a recent post in a Chicago real estate blog TheChicago77.com discussed the Finkl property as it relates to DePaul University. The site says: The Finkl & Sons site is located on the east bank of The Chicago River at Southport Ave, and Cortland Street within steps of DePaul's main campus and due to its heavy industrial use over the past 100 years the site is believed to be to contaminated for many real estate re adaptations. So it seems the current thinking is that instead of removing all the over-sized foundations so closely positioned by the rivers edge that it might be far simpler and safer to just remove all the top soil, pave over the site and any possible contamination."

To me the solution is getting them into the city ala St. Johns. I'm not sure how favorable their lease is at Allstate, but I think playing at the UC would help that program immensely.

I guess I just never noticed him. I do remember Jess Settles's 15 year career if that helps

He was kind of a mix between Chris Kramer and one of IU's big goons. He had a decent amount of skill though he got a lot of garbage stuff and statsheet says he averaged 12 and 7 his senior year. He was just as chippy, sneaky, dirty as they get for big guys like that and also liked to flop and argue. Going by Jake Jaacks (pronounced Jakes) was the cherry on top.

I seem to remember him getting in a near fight at IU. Did Knight have one of his guys throw the ball of his face on an inbounds pass? I remember him having a bloodied face for some reason.

Yeah Michael Lewis gave Jaacks a Baden burger. I was at that game. The crowd loved it of course. :clapping:

They have one of the most favorable leases of all time at Allstate. They make money on a near empty building. They would lose six figures every game if they played to their average "crowd" at the UC.

If they ever get really good again, they would probably think about moving a few games to the UC. But that's probably not going to happen.

Believe me, I would LOVE for that to happen, but according to a few university officials, it's not really on the table at the current time. That is the best possible chance for anything close to an on-campus arena (Children's Hospital NOT happening because of traffic and NIMBY concerns) but it appears that DePaul is not willing to put forth the financial commitment at the current time.

Between that lack of commitment (besides the coach) and terrible play, the impending boot from the Big East is inevitable. I think these are the final years of DePaul being anything more in hoops than Loyola or UIC. I really hope I'm wrong.

Mizzou fans: what's the deal with Otto Porter. I saw that he was selected for the Jordan Brand All-American game, but have not heard a peep about him out of any of you. What's the deal with his recruitment?

I think at this point he's a pretty solid Mizzou lean. For a while he was rumored to be seriously considering SE Missouri St, where his dad played and where a buddy or two was playing. But since he's really blown up in the last year it's come down to Mizzou and Georgetown. He said in an interview recently that he was leaning Mizzou between those two, so there's a much better feeling about him than say, McLemore. Porter can't come a moment too soon, because Mizzou's especially thin up front with Mitchell not qualifying, Green redshirting, and Underwood transferring.

Thanks, I was wondering if there was an academic issue or not given the late stage we're getting to.

Illinois offers Max Bielfeldt. Really unhappy about that.

Jesus Christ just what we need another soft ass big man

Dude, Bielfeldt is a junkyard dog. I kind of like this offer to be honest with you. He's a big time legacy and from Peoria, plus 2012 in Illinois blows so I don't think we are missing out on much. Yes Purdue fans, that even includes the great Jay Simpson. If there's a transfer or exit from the team after this season you go after Steve Taylor.

There was just a discussion about him on the Iowa board the other day. Some guy saw his numbers and asked if Iowa was interested. Local Peoria guy knows him and his family and thought he was mid-major and then the resident AAU coach (who runs the program Oglesby and Uthoff are in and coaches them) said he thinks he's a Mo Valley or Horizon level player.

I'm starting to worry about our recruiting again. Wish one of these young kids would commit to us.

2013 is a long ways off. Tommy Hamilton still isn't talking to anyone else. Parker will go to the ACC if he doesnt end up at Illinois. We'll be fine.

Listened to the college basketball podcast with Gottlieb and Katz today and they had a few minute discussion on Illinois. Gottlieb said that McCamey "was is he throwing the game bad?" on Sunday.

A win's a win, but I was hoping to see Missouri win by 25, not let Tech shoot 50 percent from the field.

Their defense has definitely regressed without Taylor and Tiller.
