UK just rec'd a commit from 2011 PG Marquis Teague, who by some is rated as the #2 prospect of the class behind UK commit Gilchrist.

This is just getting to be a joke.

We'll see soon as far as CJ Leslie and Terrance Jones who are both looking at each other as well as Patterson's decision to stay or leave UK. I think UK ends up with one of them with the other going to NCST or Oregon respectively.

If Jones doesn't go to Kentucky, he'll go to Washington (unless Oregon hits a home run to hire a coach).

Yep, Deron Williams was headed down the path to nowhere until ol' Bruce coached him up.

Nevermind the fact he led the league in assists during conf play as a freshman.

I could point out highly rated guys (McBride, Dee Brown) that spent a lot of time with Weber and are currently hooping it up in Kosovo.

And I could point out total projects (Sasha Kaun, Darnell Jackson) who got drafted after playing with Self.

Deron Williams himself has said the reason he is the player he is today is because of playing for Bruce Weber. But, that's not what ole Dollar Bill and his fans want to hear. Richard McBride was never a 5 star. Dee Brown, like Sherron Collins is too short to play in the NBA. Otherwise spot on.

Wow! A player said his coach helped him. I stand corrected. You're a fool if you think Deron Williams wasn't going to be great, regardless of who coached him. And I never said McBride was a 5*. He was the RSCI #28 player in his class though. You'd think he'd be in the league with the host of other Illini Weber has sent there.

Oh wait.

kaun and jackson were 4 star players, kaun was the 6th rated center in his class and is currently playing in kosovo and jackson is off the grid and faces an uncertain future.

you aren't good at this.

Look a little deeper than the stars. Kaun was a project big man who'd been playing basketball for 3 years before he came to college. He got drafted by Cleveland and is expected to be brought over next season or the following. Darnell Jackson was the #68 RSCI player (only 10 spots above Shaun Pruitt--how was his NBA career?) and absolutely no one expected him to play in the NBA. Yet he's already spent two years on an NBA roster.

Other comparably ranked Weber players include #49 Brian Carwell (Did he survive his stint at UI? I mean "survive" literally.) ANd Brian Randle (#53). WTG BAM!

But I'm sure you would rather have him than Self. I've only seen you and IG bitch about wishing Bill had never left about 700 times.

Fun fact: Did you know Bill Self has more NCAA Tournament Championships than all the Illinois coaches combined?

Until it's taken away

Weber does have the edge in coaching preseason top-25 teams into NIT berths.

I think Mario Chalmers's dad was the real coaching mastermind behind that "national title" team. Never should've let him go, though I guess you can't keep a coaching stud like that on payroll for too long. Where is he now, coaching some high major team I'm sure?

darnell jackson was a giant turd that bill self has to hang his hat on because he doesn't develop talent. he lures players with money or threatens them with bodily harm, you have to to get them to go wherever the hell lawrence is.

sasha kaun is not coming to the nba in any significant capacity, ever. if he idiotically chooses to come to the US to play ball, he will spend more time with the erie bayhawks or whatever than anywhere else like his buddy darnell jackson. at least he has a measure of dignity playing in moscow, albeit jayhawk dignity, but dignity nonetheless.

carlwell didn't have much time to develop before he and his teammate made a terrible choice. randle could never shoot and that is most definitely bruce's fault.

yeah, i knew that already.

and you see, that's the trouble with jayhawkers like you, you don't care how you win, you'll win with space aliens you paid a billion dollars to, you'll win with the cloverfield monster, you'll win with as many ruffians and soldiers of ill-repute as you can get. you'll win with people that have never even been to a school and instead have ghost-transcripts conjured out of thin-air by no one. kansas players love only money and that's where their loyalty is. it's the reason why self doesn't have to recruit kids until a week before the press conference, why he has no relationship with the kids before, during, or after their stints at his school. he is the king of the mercenary, the god of the hired gun, and those deep kansas pockets and those non-existent kansas scruples were just too attractive to pass up. he's right where he belongs.

you guys just don't care how you win, and that's fine, it's okay to not care, if you're fine with that. there are a lot of people out there who are just fine not caring.

I wish we still had Bill Self

You bet your ass we wish we still had Bill Self. I'd trade Weber for Self so fast it'd make your head spin. That doesn't change the fact he has flaws.

I, for one, hated Kansas long, long before I knew who Bill Self was, though.

No doubt he has flaws. And I'm talking aside from being a shaman. Mostly I'm just messing with Sulley.

Or you could look at it realistically (at least for the UI guys) and say, man, Weber got a lot out of McBride even though he may have been slightly overrated after the foot injuries that slowed him down a ton and Dee was a really good player but just a touch small to be effective in the NBA the way he plays. I really have no idea what Self did with the giant oaf that Sasha Kaun was and I don't know if I've ever even heard of Darnell Jackson.

I wish we still had Bill Self

why would i wish a thing like that? if i'm making an irrational wish, i'm gonna wish for someone who can coach a little bit. seeing as how self was an average recruiter and below average coach who won with someone else's recruits at illinois, i see no reason why i should want him back. i'm not saying i'd rather have weber, but if i've obtained one of ku's jinns, self isn't at the top of the list. the only thing he excels at is dealing with handlers, beyond that, he has no skill at anything. i mean, he knows how to obtain goods and services for legal tender, i guess that's a skill.

he succeeds in recruiting at ku because of all the reasons i've outlined before. in short, ku fans, supporters, alums, and boosters don't care how they win and they have no shame. at illinois, people fear the wrath of God.

Nah, we fear illegitimate prosecution at the hands of the NCAA. We're not one of the "big boys" that brings in the huge dollars for the NCAA so we have to play by the rules.
