That's great news for the Twins, bad news for the Yankees and Red Sox.

Good job Twinkies, that should help get those Minnesotans out of their Vikings funks.

scary length for a catcher, but if you are in the AL it's easier to deal with. And Minny had to do this, good for them.

I doubt he'll be a catcher at the end of that deal.

or not

Am told by source close to the Twins that the report of a preliminary 10-year agreement with Mauer is not accurate.

I said this would happen all along.

Exactly. They have to sign him too moving into a new stadium.

That, and Mauer wanted to play in Minnesota from the 1st contract he signed, such that nobody else stood a chance to sign him away from FSU. The team has had fairly consistent success, and he has friends on the team. Unless they flat out insulted the guy(which would be death for the franchise, he was gonna re-sign.

If they sign Mauer long term, I wonder what that means to them potentially resigning Morneau long term (after 2011 or 2012) when he becomes a FA. If they sign Mauer long term, 1B seems like the natural position for him to shift to, to help prolong his career and be able to play in more games. I have heard 3B as a potential position swap, but 1B would likely be an easier transition. There is always the DH, but it seems like the trend going into this year is for teams to leave the DH spot open to multiple players instead of have one DH.

God, I hate twitter

Why? Saying you hate Twitter makes you sound like Bill Plaschke or something.

Only twits use Twitter.

Sounds like something Bill Plaschke would write.

I don't get all these new age stats with the VORP and the WAR and the VOIXCYEIVH and the WeEniE! Who has time to understand that? I liked back when things were simpler, with just batting average and RBIs.

I also don't get Twitter and their tweets and their twits and their twoodles! Who has time to understand that? I liked back when things were simpler, with just Facebook and Blogspot.

Good reasoning.

how could anyone actively hate twitter?

the part i don't like is when news stories from the AP or CNN or whoever use reactions from twitter. then you have idiotic things like "OMG, can't believe U R gone!!!" in a news story about a death of a celebrity.

otherwise i don't have a problem with it.

I can agree with that. But I think the benefits of it far outweigh the annoying things.

solution: just say no to CNN.

I agree.

Otherwise, I sort of like Twitter. I never post anything myself, but it was pretty cool using it to follow Bears training camp and getting all the updates. I could see it being a similarly good way to follow spring training now.
