Strauss: A rumor is circulating about the Cardinals targeting free agent closer Jose Valverde. My latest information is that the club is not actively involved. Was told by one club source today that for now at least, "there's no money." I interpret that to mean anything beyond $1 million for one year. Stay tuned.

Makes sense, don't believe Franklin' going to pull another season out of his ass such as 2009.

How many names and seasons from the last seven years or so could you plug into that sentence to describe Cardinal players, though?

If that level of performance has already been pulled from one's rectum, presumably there would be no need to remove it a second time. If it happens again it probably was never in there in the first place.

Ryan Ludwick, Rick Ankiel, Kyle Lohse, and Aaron Miles are the most recent that come to mind, and I suspect that Franklin and Joel Piniero will be right behind them.

I forgot about Womack. The guy was worthless for us, and decided to have his 1 good year with the Cards.
