Just retire 21 already, plz. Or at least take it out of commission.

Also, 44 is interesting. Has anyone worn it sins Farnsworth? I cant think of any.

Novoa and Fox.

More specifically, Chad Fox (as opposed to Jake Fox).

Thanks for the plug. Yes, I am still here. I really don't post but I do come here to read whats going on.

I am soon going to update my yearly page with the spring training numbers and I will be updating the all-time list once the season starts (since that page does not contain spring training numbers).

It's not that surprising...that was Colvin's number throughout the minors.

Ah Fox, that's right. And I completely forgot Novoa existed.

Why? Forget for a moment that the whole number retirement thing is stupid, but it never happens immediately. Usually it waits until after a guy is inducted in the Hall. Why does it have to happen right away? Why does a guy need his number retired at all?

Just because you think number retirement is silly doesn't mean everyone does. Many do, many don't. I happen to think it's a nice honor.

Aside from that, I know it rarely ever happens immediately. I was mostly speaking out of what I would like to see happen. If Sammy is ever elected to the Hall I'd assume the Cubs will then retire his number soon after. I have no real problem with them not doing it yet and I don't think it's any show of "disrespect" to allow other players to wear 21. I'd just like to see it retired a.s.a.p. because he's my favorite Cub.

I'm a little torn on retiring numbers. In basketball everybody wants No. 23. If I were Michael Jordan I would think that was awesome. But at the same time it's kind of cool to retire the number...

Are we going to cringe when we see him wearing it, think about Aaron Miles?

Nope. Just think Lofton and Walker and Theriot and DeRosa.

It's just another petty show of disrespect for Sosa.

with all due respect, sammy sosa has already disrespected sammy sosa especially in light of mcgwire's "confession". it's been a dirty number for a while and someone needs to play better to make the number respectable again.

I agree with you to an extent, but do you really believe Tyler Colvin will be the one to do this?

So that's 38 on the 40 man roster, leaving the option of adding 2 without waiving or releasing anyone.

Here are the latest updates...Thanks to Al Yellon of Bleed Cubbie Blue for these (since I have not yet gotten a response back from my inquiry to the Cubs on updated numbers, but he did). These numbers do not as of yet appear on the official Cub site, but they did come from the Cubs so I would think they are accurate

What's highly entertaining is when a minor leaguer without a non-roster invitation to big league camp appears in a major league split squad game. That leads to such classic lines as "Now stepping to the plate, old number 97!".
