If Cameron is off the board and Bradley's gone, it sounds like we have a Marlon Byrd signing coming up. Great.

If Cameron signs I would hope we just keep Bradley.

Bradley is better than Cameron and keeping Bradley wasn't an option then, so I don't know why it would be an option now.

Bradley is better but not by much. I think ridding the headache of Bradley + drop off to Cameron > keeping Bradley > ridding the headache of Bradley + drop off to Byrd/Pods

He was the most attractive of the free agent options. Hopefully Hendry has trade on his mind to fill the CF hole instead of the remaining free agents.

I sure would be interested to see the contingency matrix that Hendry and the boys drew up on the whiteboard during their organizational meetings. All indications are that their Plans A (Granderson) and B (Cameron) are now off the board; meanwhile there's been no resolution to their first order of business (ditching Bradley).

I personally don't think keeping Bradley appears anywhere on the decision tree, but they're quickly approaching their worst-case scenario.

Is it time to question Ricketts yet? I seriously doubt Hendry would have let both Granderson and Cameron go off the board, if he had the ability to actually do something before the Bradley thing is resolved. Gotta wonder if we truly can not make a move until that's over with......Does Hendry deserve alot of leniency from Ricketts? Nah. But, if it's the case and he literally can't do anything until Bradley is gone, how is that helping us for next year, under any circumstance?(unless a reconciliation comes out of it and I don't see that)

Welcome to Chicago Rick [expletive] Ankiel. Id just about bet money that it happens now

The only thing that might derail that inevitability is Scott Boras pricing Ankiel as a young Joe DiMaggio.

Nah, he'll just tell Hendry that not only is he a young Joe D, but he can also be our yearly rehab guy we sign as a pitcher. Hendry kills two birds with one stone here. Win-win folks. :ninja:

Cameron is easily better than Bradley, and that's before you consider that with Cameron you get to play Kosuke in RF, which is a huge defensive jump.

Maybe he is keeping Hendry to be the fall guy next year when the team is not upgraded. Better for Ricketts than dumping Hendry now.

If this becomes final, there isn't much out there on the FA market besides Byrd and maaaaybe Crisp. I'd rather run Fuld out there than Ankiel or Pods, and it isn't particularly close.

Trade market may have some alternatives. I'd need to look around a bit though for somebody who would come cheaply.

I for one am glad. I'm sick of seeing the cubs sign this type of guy. Good power, tons of strikeouts, fading skills. No thanks. At this point we are better with bradley then without him.

We will see if you are happy when Rick Ankiel or Scott [expletive] Podsednik is roaming CF for the Cubs

I don't know where to begin with this one. Who cares how much he strikes out, an what evidence is there that his skills are fading? Cameron is a great ballplayer.

Personally I don't even consider Scott Podsednik a option for CF, even if a few reports claim the Cubs have interest. Lou already has said he's looking for another middle of the order hitter and said they are looking to improve the outfield defense. Pods isn't anything close to a middle of the order bat, and isn't his defense crap? Especially in CF? So maybe they are looking at him as a 4th outfielder, and will consider him if the price drops pretty low on him. Just like they would have interest in Joel Pineiro if the price drops pretty low on him. So it's probably going to be Marlon Byrd, Rick Ankiel or Ryan Church. With Ankiel and Church mostly brought in to be part of a platoon. Unless of course they are able to pull of a trade for a guy like Cody Ross or David DeJesus. I'm most worried about them overpaying Marlon Byrd(something like 2y at 16m). But it looks like he is currently out priced himself from the Cubs with him asking for a 3 or 4 year deal at 8m plus per year, and it looks like Ankiel is doing the same. If Byrd lowers his demands to something like a 2 year with a option on a third year I could see the Cubs signing him though. But I doubt they would overpay on Ankiel. I think they like him a cheap option for CF and not someone they would consider giving big money to. Edited by cubsfan26

What about Randy Winn? Keep Kosuke in CF, and Winn in RF. Not ideal, or anywhere close to my number #1 offseason option but he wouldn't be a horrible idea.
