Yes, I mean Iowa, the only school I'm aware of in the big 10 that grants instant admittance to out of state students because they are so desperate for qualified applicants. btw - I say this as someone with a HS senior applying for colleges right now. The HS counselor suggested applying to Iowa as a backup because, "they'll take just about anyone right now."

There's like one big ten school that's hard to get admission to.

And yet Iowa is the one that literally responded in two days and has counselors suggesting it as a backup plan to other big 10 schools.

Maybe your child is a qualified candidate? I'm not sure what your point is, Tim. Iowa is a well regarded school, in line with every big ten college not called NW or Michigan. It's professional schools are very well regarded nationally. It's a great college town.

Nebraska is much less so and its non-football sports are not good fits for the big ten either.

depends on what college you're applying to within those schools.

Yeah I was going to say... depends on what degree you're going for. For example, Pudue got some schools that's really tough to get into.

What a load of crap. They are experience record enrollment numbers and are building a new dorm for the first time in about 45 years.

Seriously? You mean Iowa, the school with a top 30 law program and top 30 medical school? Located in a great college town?

I think Nebraska is the only big ten school not in the AAU, right?

Yes, that is people from Illinois' perception of Iowa, you're correct.

Also of course Iowa will accept out of state admissions. They're bringing in more money that way and not to mention bigger enrollment #s which looks good for colleges. Pretty sure most colleges have a little more leeway with out of state admissions (I'm just talking about just undecided/general studies... not specific schools like Architecture or Engineering for example).

But instead of playing OSU and Wisconsin we have to play Nebraska and Maryland or Rutgers? What the [expletive]?

While I agree with your overall point, that seems a rather natural match-up.

We (every Iowa fan i knew as a kid) all hated Nebraska. That was the first cfb team I ever truly hated. I don't even know why.

I get the geographic proximity but it was a team we hadn't played regularly in like forever. There are a number of Midwest teams that haven't been regulars on Iowa's schedule. Nebraska just isn't a fit for the big ten, outside of football.

Just curious, how are they are worse fit for the big 10 than, say, Iowa?

That's correct. What's really ironic about Nebraska joining the Big Ten is that they actually WERE an AAU school when they joined the Big Ten, but lost the status shortly thereafter.

It's only a matter of time. If they would have just thought this way all along and not offered membership to any school with a football team, they could have kicked out the football teams, kept the Big East name and MSG for their conference tourney. Instead, they are probably going to have to go it alone without an auto bid to the NCAA tourney for a year or two and try to start a new conference. Bad planning.

That being said, could be a very strong hoops league with like teams. Would be nice to get to 10 teams and play a home and home every year. That could be cool: Georgetown, Villanova, St. Johns, Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul, Marquette and then add Xavier, Butler, and St. Louis. All located in major metro areas in the East/Midwest. Cool idea.

And Creighton. Please, Creighton. We have Doug McDermott!

As a Marquette alum, this is making the best of a bad situation. Keeping the Big East name and MSG are the key assets to protect, but you're off base on the autobid. In order for a conference to have an autobid for basketball, there needs to be seven active Division I members that sponsor men’s and women’s basketball and sponsor a minimum of six men’s sports and six women’s sports. That's not a problem.

YES, that officially makes this news excellent! Of course, the BCS money will probably be no more soon, right?

Jim Delany's desperate quest to destroy the ACC continues.

Yes, that's what's driving this. A UNC alum wanting to destroy the ACC

I fail to understand any other motivation for adding mediocre (in football) filler, small-TV-market programs like UNC and Virginia.
