The exit fee thing kind if makes sense if SLU or Dayton turned down the Big East. Doesn't really make sense from Big Easts view though. Does it matter to them that much?

Although I think if Creighton doesn't go in this wave, the MVC could have tried to raise the fee. Its possible the Big East looked at it this way, essentially negotiating with the conferences rather than teams. If they think the A-10s exit structure wont change, but the MVCs could it makes sense to do it now. The other thing though is if they ontend to go to 12, why even wait? Scheduling?

Don't worry the B1G is taking that powerhouse Rutgers program off their hands.

Louisville, Temple, Memphis, Cincinnati were tourney teams this year and UConn would have been.

Of course, going from annually one of the top 2-3 conferences in CBB to a conference on par with the SEC isn't exactly something to be thrilled about.

Louisville is leaving after next season. And that is quite the dumpster fire of a football conference.

Gah, forgot about that. Sucks to be you UConn. At least Memphis and Temple are used to playing in mediocre conferences.

Sucks for Louisville that they're stuck in that league for a year, but at least they'll get a free BCS bid for their trouble.

Multiple reports say the current ACC schools (minus Maryland, plus Louisville) have agreed to a media grant of rights.

If true, that move would probably spell the end of realignment, or at least the full-scale chaos version of the last 3 years. All the major schools, with the exceptions of the old Big East, would be locked into grant-of-rights deals with their leagues.

ETA: Apparently the SEC doesn't have a grant of rights, nor do they even have a buyout, but I'm not sure why any school would leave that league right now anyway.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, Loyola was added as the 10th member of the MVC replacing Creighton.

While Loyola has been terrible (men's bball) for the past 27 years, seems like a logical addition to replace Creighton for the MVC as far as the private, Jesuit angle goes. Supposedly Loyola has made investments over the past few years to improve their athletic facilities so I guess time will tell whether they'll get a return on the investment.
