MLB.com is reporting that Dan Uggla is being shopped by Florida. Any chance at all of us landing him?

From everything I heard the Cubs have no interest in him. They don't like his defense at 2b I guess.

I wish they did have interest.

Rockies release Murton to pursue career in Japan — 3:21 p.m.

Outfielder Matt Murton was released by the Rockies in a move designed to allow Murton to sign with a Japanese team. Murton figured in the Rockies' plans as a backup right-handed-hitting outfielder in case they dealt Ryan Spilborghs.

When the opportunity arose in Japan, however, the Rockies agreed to allow Murton to go because of the salary he can command in that country.

The Rockies are reconsidering keeping Spilborghs, who is a first-time arbitration eligible player, but also have made inquiries on Milwaukee outfielder Corey Hart as an option of they do trade Spilborghs. -- Tracy Ringolsby

Hart is undervalued IMO.

Mike Fontenot can probably be scratched from the list of non-tender candidates. It looks as if the Cubs will be offering him a contract.

If this is the case, I imagine that we can bury the Luis Castillo rumors, unless they plan on using Fontneot as trade bait. With Theriot, Baker, Font, and Blanco, I cant imagine adding another middle infielder.

Remember, Jim Hendry loves middle infielders.

Say what you well about Penny, but adding a solid #3 starter to one of the best 1-2 SP punches in the league is pretty big for the Cards, assuming he can stay healthy, and of course Carpenter can stay healthy. Of course their bullpen still leaves much to be desired, and who out there really believes that Ryan Franklin will repeat 2009?

Penny is not a number 3 starter. He's a end of the rotation type of pitcher. He turned it up in September for the Giants but was horrible in July and August. This isn't the 07' Brad Penny.

This is true, but I doubt the Cards will get any more out of him than they did out of Piniero last year. And unless I am mistaken, Piniero is likely to be on another team in 2010. He's solid, but Penny will never be as good as he was (which was for brief periods at that). I see this as a lateral move.

Randy Wolf Close To Signing With Brewers?

By Tim Dierkes [December 7 at 9:34pm CST]

9:34pm: Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel hears that it will take a three year offer to lure Wolf to Milwaukee. The Brewers appear willing to offer the lefty a third year. The Dodgers didn't offer him arbitration, so at least he won't cost a draft pick. Still, the deal's far from a certainty at this point.

9:22pm: Ed Price of AOL FanHouse hears that the Brewers are closing in on a three-year deal with Wolf. Price writes that he's "trying to confirm" the rumor, so it's definitely not a sure thing. Stay tuned.

Wolf did have himself a pretty impressive 2009, but judging by his past track record, theyd basically be getting themselves another Jeff Supan type, so more power to em.

Wolf was pretty good in 2009, but thats not someone I would wanna give a three year and most likely 10m plus per year deal to. When you consider Wolf has either been pretty average or hurt every season since 2002 or 2003.

Pudge to Nats...

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that catcher Ivan Rodriguez has agreed to terms on a two-year, $6 million deal with the Nationals.

It's really hard to believe, but it has now been confirmed by multiple sources. The Nationals have no business handing a two-year contract to a 38-year-old catcher, especially when they have a young, productive catcher in Jesus Flores. The Nats are far from being able to contend in the NL East and don't need a veteran catcher vulturing playing time from a youngster.

Wow

Looks like Pudge might to get 3000 hits, he sits at 2711.

He hasn't gotten 145 hits in a season since '06. He has no chance. I'll give the Nats the benefit of the doubt and say they're bringing him in to mentor Flores. Still dumb though.

I really don't get it, first off he is a shell of his former self and sucks at baseball. He isn't a guy who is going to draw fans and he isn't a guy that a non-contending team signs with intention of looking to make a deadline deal, because they will get zero value for him. The only thing I can think of is that they might want a veteran catcher to be there for Strasburg in ST and when he breaks into the majors this year, maybe they just really like something about pudge and what he has to offer in strasburg's development? Still $6 mil. is about $5.5 mil. too much for Pudge at this point.

Rafael Soriano accepted salary arbitration from the Braves... so now they've got Soriano back to set up Wagner. That's a nice combo

Saito too.

Cubs have interest (of some level) in J.J. Putz

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10475170

Could be an interesting reclamation project following his injury. He walked a lot more batters in 2008 compared to 2007, which makes me wonder whether his struggles could be attributed to injury/fatigue or whether something more troubling happened to him.

At least he'll be easy to heckle if he sucks.

Reports are Braves will look to trade Soriano, he has to approve a trade before June 15. Knowing that Hendry is looking for a vet out of the bullpen Soriano could make sense, if they aren't asking a ton for him and it's more of a salary relief move.
