This is the same guy that made the Cowboys think Roy Williams was an elite WR and Mike Furrey a 1000 yard WR.

Speak of the devil....

Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago reports that the Bears have recently talked to Mike Furrey's representatives.

Yeah, I knew that when I posted. This should work out well. The Bears need more 33 year old, small WRs on the team.

Cutler isn't good enough where you can put the entire season on his shoulders, lack of line/weapons or not.

i think he's the kind of quarterback that keep a bad team average and an average team good.

if the defense can play, i think cutler will have the bears in the playoff picture.

Not under Ron Turner, I agree.

So far he hasn't been good enough. I have some faith that he can be good enough, but I'd rather rely on more than just him carrying this club until he actually carries the club.

Not under Mike Shanahan either. Of course, he was in his 1st two years as a starting QB. I do have faith that someday in the near future he will be able to though.

I merely meant that he has a lot more potential under Martz than he did under Turner.

The Chicago Bears finally did on Friday what they've been expected to do for months, hiring Tim Ruskell as director of player personnel.

tom thayer apparently thinks that chris williams is the best LT in the north.

i don't think it's a huge stretch, clifton is old and mckinnie is pretty good, but there's no reason that williams can't be elite. i thought he stacked up well to the other LTs in his draft class and his injury put him behind.

I know at times he had help, but the way he played Jared Allen last season at Soldier Field gives me hope he can turn into the Pro Bowl caliber LT. Time will tell, tho.

Sayers hasn't been happy in 30 years

Well, it has been 25 years since we won a Super Bowl.

Jeff Dickerson and Michael Wright, from ESPNChicago.com, report free agent quarterback Josh McCown would like to go to the Bears. "I understand right now there's not anybody beating down my door to be a starter," McCown told ESPNChicago.com. "So understanding that, where do you go to be in a great situation where you are a backup? For me, in Mike Martz's offense and where I'm at in my career, I feel comfortable with [coming to Chicago]. The fact that Jay [Cutler] is there doesn't affect me at all, and probably gets me more excited because you get to work with a guy that talented, and hopefully help the coaches get the best out of him."

Right now the Bears have Caleb Hanie and rookie Dan LeFevour backing up Jay Cutler. Hanie is a scrappy veteran, and McCown wouldn't be an upgrade over him in our eyes. LeFevour is the developmental quarterback with high upside. The Bears have been talking about adding a veteran quarterback, but as long as Hanie and LeFevour stay healthy we don't think they need to.

This quote is why Sayers is such a bitter a-hole.

Sayers pointed out that he made $50,000 in his final season and a total of $275,000 over his entire career. He said he would like to be playing today.

"You know why? Because of the money," he said. "I wouldn't change my game. I probably would be just as good because I would be on AstroTurf. The money, that's the key right now. Everybody is making so much. A person snapping the football is making a million dollars."

That's a crappy reason. The cheapest player on the Cubs makes more this year than Ernie Banks probably ever made in a year, but you don't see Ernie getting all pissy.

It's "Kids these days" syndrome....

but isn't it more than that? my understanding is the old guys whose bodies are all beaten up but who didn't make hundreds of thousands or millions don't feel they're adequately taken care of by the league that made a ton of money off of them in their younger days. he does sound like a bitter a-hole, but he has a point.

Well, that doesn't excuse his awful football opinions...

But yeah, I get that they think they should be taken care of better...and I see that point...I won't begrudge him that. But he brings that bitterness into every football related thing that he does, and that's not going to endear him to anybody. It's not the current players fault that the NFL doesn't pay better pensions.

Hanie is a vet? He's been in the league two years and has thrown 7 passes.

I agree. Unless Martz thinks Hanie just flat out sucks, I see no value in going after a guy like McCown or any other veteran backup. This team is only going as far as Cutler can take them, I can't imagine them even matching last year's performance if they have to rely on a backup. So what's the point?

It's a weird way of putting it, but basically any player who is not a rookie or second year player is considered a veteran.

Strange. I don't see a need for McCown either, but I view Hanie and LeFevour the exact same way - two inexperienced guys whose talent level isn't great.

Well you shouldn't view them the same. Hanie has been around the team for a long time, and that counts for something. LeFevour is a talented rookie who is going to have to overhaul his game while learning the pro level. They aren't similar.
