So is it set in stone that Manumaleuna is now #1 on the TE depth chart? You would think I'd know more about him being in San Diego, but Gates played so much that I really don't have that much knowledge other than he's more of a blocking TE.

I'm not sure I like the focus to be on blocking. If there were some pro bowl caliber receivers I could see it more. With the level of concern on the O-Line, I like Cutler having as many offensive weapons as possible. He needs his outlets if he isn't going to have the necessary time to throw. A blocking tight end probably isn't enough help to offset the loss of offense.

I would have to assume that he's the #1 based simply on being by far the most highly paid. If Olsen were to stay, he'd have to be a part-time guy, because they aren't going to go 2 WR, 2 TE, 1RB all that often.

I'm guessing the look will most often be 3 WR, 1 TE, 1B, that allows for 7 blockers on any given play, and both the TE and RB can also be an outlet if the 3 WR don't get open.

I'd prefer the premium be on keeping Cutler from getting killed. The problem, though, is that from what I hear Manumaleuna isn't really a pass-blocking wizard. I've been hearing more that he average in pass blocking, but is a load coming off the line on running plays.

So no, I really don't want to sacrifice Olsen's pass catching just to gain average pass blocking, if that's what it is going to be.

Via the Bears' official twitter account:

OC Mike Martz on RBs Matt Forte and Chester Taylor: "We have two starters. That's how we look at it."

Of course he says that in early March.

So now that Jones is gone, which of Bell, Peterson, and Wolfe make the team? I think Peterson is a FA now right?

I think Bell. Peterson is likely gone, and I wasn't impressed with Wolfe.

Shocker. I wish he didn't get hurt diving into the sidelines in the last preseason game. We really really could have used him last season instead of Wolfe and Bell getting significant carries.

Eh. Wolfe didn't get in all that much, and when he did, he did a pretty fantastic job running the ball.

That's not to say that I'm one of these crazy people who think Garrett Wolfe is good.

It's going to be the best ST player, which I think is Peterson.

Jones was saying yesterday morning that he was going to compete for the job or something, and I was thinking "are you delusional? You're gone dude..."

I don't mind him thinking that though. He was just trying to remain positive until the last possible moment.

I agree, sure would have been nice last year to have him carrying the ball instead of Bell/Wolfe. At least for a significant portion of the time.

Some guys just can't stay healthy.

Peterson is unrestricted. He also is NOT a better special teams player than Wolfe anymore.

He didn't get CBA-ified back to restricted status? What does Wolfe do on ST nowadays? I can't picture him making plays. Either way, with 2 higher profile runners, the 3rd back isn't going to be playing RB barring massive injuries.

No, I believe Peterson has 6 years in. And Wolfe led ST in tackles in 2008. He was leading in 2009 before he got hurt.

Well then it's Wolfe. Unless that Bell guy is a real tackler, he'd serve no purpose.

How about none of the above. Frote and Taylor are pretty interchangeable. Wolfe doesn't do anything on offense that Taylor can't do. Maybe they use a late round pick on a project runningback that can bring something else to the table like a short yardage fullback

The 3rd back will be a guy that plays well on special teams. It's not about their running back ability.

I think most of us already had this figured, but...

Urlacher, nearly at full strength coming off wrist surgery, believes any changes made by Marinelli will be subtle.

"It's the same system and Lovie still oversees it,'' he said. "When it was Bob, it was Lovie. When it was Lovie, it was Lovie. Now that it's Rod, it's going to be Lovie. Lovie still has all the input in what we do. It's just a different guy making the calls.

c. No one in the league would have paid Brandon Manumaleuna $3 million to play football in 2010 -- except the Bears, who paid him $6.1 million: $2 million to sign, $3 million in a roster bonus, and $1.055 million in salary.

d. If I were Greg Olsen, I'd want to be traded, too.
