I posted this on another board, but frankly I don't think any of the candidates I have seen other than Martz are worth getting upset over. And Martz is still out there.

I'm not sure what exactly was the reason Martz wasn't hired. Was it because Jay really doesn't like him, or was that more media BS? Was it because Angelo didn't want Lovie to hire a friend right away? I don't know. But he's been the best name I've heard in relation to the position from the beginning, and remains so 3 weeks later.

I liked Bates for his upside (can a coach have upside?), though I doubt we would have seen a major improvement to the offense right away. I liked Chudzinski, who was the most experienced of those interviewed.

According to Brad Biggs on CTL, the Bears are reportedly asking the Vikings for permission to interview QB coach Kevin Rogers.

They've never blocked any assistants from a chance at a promotion but I think they might here simply because it's the Bears and they don't want someone who they think can improve Cutler.

Rogers was McNabb's QB coach/coordinator at Syracuse then worked for Davie at Notre Dame for a few years and was at Virginia Tech when Childress hired him. He thought he was a really good developmental QB coach. Chilly thought they could mold Tarvaris into another McNabb based on how Rogers coached him in college and what Childress did with the Eagles.

The only non-journeyman he had in Minnesota were Jackson with mixed results and now Favre where he probably didn't do much.

Oh my. Has it gotten so bad that OC candidates are choosing to work with Al Davis over the Bears?

A senile and crazy old man and an offense that has millions tied in to two of the biggest early round flops in recent memory. Jamarcus Russell might be the biggest flop of all time.

Not sure what to make of a Kevin Rogers interview. He did coach McNabb at Syracuse and Vick at VT, I believe. But he has only called plays for a poor ND team almost 10 years ago. Add to that the fact that the Vikes allowed him to interview with a division rival who has a franchise QB, that kinda shows me what Minnesota thinks about the guy. I really don't want him.

However, there are still some very interesting names that are on the Colts and Saints staff. Obviously, Clyde Christensen for the Colts who we talked about. But there is also Saints OC, Pete Carmichael Jr, who's dad was a Bears assistant under Jauron. And my personal favorite, Joe Lombardi, grandson of Vince. If the Bears can somehow pull off one of these 3 guys as the OC....I would be estatic.

Current Colts OC Tom Mora is supposed to retire after this year.
Did some mad scientist combine Tom Moore and Jim Mora? :D

Apparently. I can't tell you how many times I have done that. "Playoffs!"

And Tom Moore has no plans to retire. The Colts offensive line coach Howard Mudd is retiring. But Moore has said that he will coach until they don't want him anymore. He almost had to retire last year because of the pension situation, but now that's been settled and Moore should probably be there through at least the end of the Peyton years.

I don't think it tells you much about what they think of him. It's standard for teams to let position coaches interview for coordinator positions.

That being said, this guy would be a completely uninspiring selection and would tell me even more Lovie is just looking for a guy to do what he wants rather than an actual autonomous OC.

That's even better news then.

I don't know. I just think the fact that GB didn't let the Bears interview their QB coach and Minnesota is so willing raises an eyebrow. Plus, I think there is some disappointment that he couldn't develop Tavarris Jackson (who I actually think is not that bad).

But yeah, completely uninspiring as was Hue Jackson.

He had such little impact with the QBs they had, they needed to bring in Favre to make everything OK.

That doesn't make me think he's going to be very good for Cutler.

I think this would be a shaky choice at best.

They also had crappy QBs.

Crappy because they're just crappy? Or crappy because they were never developed?

I don't think I want to find out. Pass on this guy plz.

Jackson was like a 50% passed in 1-AA and drafted way too early.

Yeah, I have an irrational hatred of Rogers due to his time at ND, but you can't blame him for Tavaris Jackson being terrible. Tavaris Jackson was never going to be a good pro.

Then maybe Childress is crappy :)

Doesn't sound like he was involved with Vick, unless you mean his brother:

But Tarvaris Jackson, one of the Vikings' pre-Favre starters, showed significant improvement under Rogers. Jackson was a raw, second-round pick out of Alabama State in 2006, Rogers’ first year with the Vikings after four years as Virginia Tech’s quarterbacks coach.

If 2006 was his first year in Minny, after 4 in VT, that would put his arrival there in 2002.

This guy is in his late 50's and has a very weak resume. Why in the world are they even considering him?

Man times moves fast. I thought Vick was done in 2002. That makes his resume even worse. He better not get the job.

He was 61% his senior year. Not that it really changes your point though.

Tarvaris was a developmental guy with all the physical skills whom they rushed. He actually had decent numbers in the '08 season. One of the complaints of Rogers/Bevell/Childress was that they didn't address his mechanical flaws by the end of year 3. I don't necessarily put the blame on them. Most of his mistakes came from throwing flat-footed along with some bad decisions.
