It should help to play in new orleans, but either way its going to be played in a dome so I don't think it will be THAT big of a factor.

dude, you hadn't ever been to the Superdome. It is a MASSIVE advantage. It is so loud man. Like, your ears ring after leaving there. Opposing teams look stupid there.

Yes I have.

Its the exact same thing as going into Mall Of America field. The Vikings know what its like for the opposing team to go to MOAF. So yes it will be an advatage, just not as much as it would be if say.. the Packers were to play in NO. Same goes for if NO has to go to Minnesota.

Minnesota's home field is loud, but I have never been to a stadium louder then the Super Dome.

I have been to both, I'd say its pretty close. Both places are headache loud though.

Here's to the Saints starting 15-0 and the Colts losing a game so that NBC flexes us into Sunday night so the entire country can watch my Panthers get defenestrated.

Saints and Colts have pretty easy schedules left. For the Colts the Titans are playing a lot better but that's a home game, they have to play at Jacksonville so that will be tough, and a few weeks ago I would have mentioned the Broncos as a tough game, but they've fallen apart.

And as mentions, the Saints pretty much just have Dallas. How crazy would it be to have two undefeated teams in the Super Bowl.

No offense to Indy, but I think the two best teams are both in the NFC this year.

The Patriots gave up with over 6 minutes left. I'm surprised nobody made a big deal about that.

Steve Young just made the analogy: "what the Patriots did reminded me of when you are kicking your younger brother's butt in chess or something and he just gets mad and messes the board up and says 'forget this!'"

Let's not forget that a below average Panthers team was tied with 5 minutes left in that building this year. The Falcons game was also a dogfight into the last minutes.

Tonight's win should ensure they have homefield and that will give them an advantage. They're both elite teams but have 6 games left where key injuries could really mess things up. I think the Vikings defense will make them a little more one dimensional and get more pressure with 4 than Brees has been used to. I'm just scared of our safeties against that offense.

Hopefully the Eagles or Cardinals can pull a rabbit out of their hats and knock them off.

When the Patriots attempted to make that fourth-down conversion in the third quarter, the Dome responded at 119 decibels before the snap.

holy smokes

When the city shuts down at noon so everyone has 7+ hours to party before the game, it better get loud.

That was just so odd.

I had to work overnight shift tonight at the hotel I work at downtown. I got to work just as the game was ending and people were getting back to the French Quarter to party. The party went on around where I was until 5 in the morning and when I left work at 7:30 I could see there were still quite a few people in the FQ.

Yeah I think they're definitely the two most complete teams.

I don't think much support exists for this thesis. The Vikings have played one of the easiest schedules in the NFL -- the easiest in the entire NFL per Sagarin (the Colts have the twelfth most difficult). Their best win was a 2-point win against a 6-5 team, their loss a 10-point loss to another 6-5 team. Despite that, they've allowed 19 more points on the season than the Colts, and have only outscored their opponents by 19 more points total. Looking at advanced statistics, the Saints just jumped the Colts for No. 1 in team efficiency, with the Vikings ranked eighth (the Vikings are two spots ahead of the Colts in offense, but 12 spots behind in defense) (see http://www.advancednflstats.com/2009/12/team-efficiency-rankings-week-13.html). I'm not entirely sure what the Vikings have done to distinguish themselves from the Colts.

Edit: I totally forgot that the Packers are somehow 7-4, so those would be the Vikings best wins. That was not meant to be an intentional misrepresentation. I apologize for that.

Showed up before the 3rd quarter in any game played in the last month.

Well, that's certainly a contrived calculus.* Nevertheless, it had to be real hard on the Vikings playing teams that were a combined 17-27, while the Colts were playing teams with a combined 28-27 mark.

*Though I do agree that a continuation of falling in large deficits -- which has only actually happened twice, by the way -- is an extremely dangerous proposition.

That's fair. Indy has certainly played a much tougher schedule. I'm probably just putting too much weight on their slow starts and the holes they've dug in the last month or so. The end results have been impressive.

If the slow starts continue, it'll probably be the death of the Colts. You'll get no disagreement here. I just don't believe we fully have an understanding of how good the Vikings are.
