So what does UCLA gain by taking those 3 timeout to 2010?

Why is USC running a play action bomb in that situation rather than a dive up the middle? And quite frankly, that's not what bugged me. What bugged me is that Carroll was jumping up and down 10 yards onto the field and everyone on the USC sideline was running onto the field or pointing and gesturing at the other sideline. Total bush league. But go ahead, Carroll, bitch to Harbaugh and then do the same crap.

And that play also took away from questioning the reffing on such plays as the "whistle" blowing the Jonathan Franklin lateral dead and causing them to run a do-over.

When asked afterwards, the UCLA coaches and players didn't have a problem with it. If you don't want the game extended, don't call time outs.

This is much ado about nothing. A lot of Bruin fans whining. Of course, when you lose nine of the last ten to the Trojans, a much better football program, I guess their misguided frustration is understandable, if not justified.

Next time don't call time outs.

I love watching you make a fool of yourself whenever USC is brought up.

Why don't you enjoy it at other times?

I want the record to show that I mentioned Voice of Reason being MIA after the Stanford game a full 13 minutes before Ryan did.

For those that don't know, the Tiger safety that popped that guy is also a pretty damn good baseball player.

National Champion in both football and baseball. Not a bad career at all for Chad Jones.

That was awesome and I still contend that the penalty was BS.

Looks similar to the penalty against the UGA player against Oklahoma State. Leading with the shoulder, it appears.

Definitely led with shoulder, but they called helmet-to-helmet.

I'd enjoy a UT/NU matchup or a UT/Ok St matchup. For some reason, though, I think I'd really enjoy watching us play against Northwestern.

If the ESPN guys are right about NU getting the Outback, I don't see any way Tennessee doesn't get the Outback bid. With the Monte ties and avoiding another UT/Wisconsin matchup, I think it'd be the best deal for the Outback.

even if wisconsin fans/grads are tired of playing in the outback every year and tired of playing tennessee, there are a lot more wisconsin fans than northwestern fans and wisconsin people travel better.

The biggest thing Wisconsin has to worry about in terms of traveling is that the Outback might have the perception that they're not going to travel as well as they have in the past after going to Hawaii this Saturday and all the recent trips to Florida (last 5 years).

In Northwestern's favor is all the work our AD put in with them last year during the process despite getting jumped by Iowa. We also travel quite well to bowl games, outdrawing Mizzou fans last year in the Alamo Bowl, which had a higher attendance than an Iowa vs. South Carolina matchup in last year's Outback Bowl by about 800. That definitely had to get the attention of the Outback Bowl committee. And when you factor in the large alumni base we have on the east coast, including Florida, and the fact we haven't been to Florida since the 1997 Citrus Bowl, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we would outdraw Wisconsin fans there this year.

Northwestern also has a pretty wealthy fan base, for what it's worth. The alumni association's extremely overpriced all-inclusive Alamo Bowl package sold out in less than three days last year, IIRC.

I don't like the helmet-to-helmet call unless the player is leading with his helmet. It's too easy to just naturally bump helmets (like in that play).

I can't remember what it cost last year, but it was ridiculously expensive. Thankfully, those fans seemed to be segregated from the rest of the ticket office allotment, which was much louder.

Hmmm, who's opinion do I value more, SSR and Hawkeye Cub or the La Times? Thats a toughie.

At the end of a long, brutal fight, Pete Carroll extended an olive branch.

Rick Neuheisel poked him with it.

In the final seconds of a game that had already been decided, Pete Carroll made a common gesture to save players while allowing UCLA to save face.

Rick Neuheisel swung at him with it.

For more than three hours, the two disillusioned locals played through a season's worth of problems to produce a tough and classy crosstown rivalry game.

Then, acting like a brat, Rick Neuheisel changed all of it.

The conclusion here was that Neuheisel's pettiness in the face of Carroll's professionalism was wrong.

In the end, while his players deserved better, Neuheisel got exactly what he deserved.

When the game finally ended, Carroll and Neuheisel met for only a moment at midfield before parting ways.

Said Carroll: "We've been saying it for years, living it for years . . . just compete."

Said Neuheisel: "I don't forget very much."

Here's guessing he'll want to forget this one.

On this night, the brat who called a timeout needed to be put in one.

The moment you use Bill [expletive] Plaschke as a defense of anything, you immediately lose any shred of credibility you ever had

LOL...Plaschke? The guy who covers UCLA games in USC attire?

Plus, he's an idiot.

Derwood I know you have a very impressive resume which gives you the right to demean others but for the record, Plaschke has been named National Sports Columnist of the Year by the Associated Press four times.

Not as impressive as your accomplishments but it's a little something.

Yes, I know, the Associated Press has no credibility.

That sounds like an argument that Plaschke would use

The Pac Ten is a good conference. Wouldn't your Illini love to be 8 - 3 instead of the reverse of it.

Hey, and if we win next week, we'll have as many wins as Washington.

Of course we didn't get to play USC, so they had an unfair advantage.
