Good choice. King Felix would also have been acceptable.

How so? Greinke was better than him at everything, except willing his team to score more runs on days he pitched.

Greinke was clearly better.....I was only saying that if they had voted Hernandez it wouldn't have been a "Palmeiro Gold Glove" travesty.

As an addendum to Greinke's award;

Use of Statistics Helps Greinke to Cy Young

“David DeJesus had our best zone rating,” Bannister said, referring to the Royals’ left fielder. “So a lot of times, Zack would pitch for a fly ball at our park instead of a ground ball, just because the zone rating was better in our outfield and it was a big park.”

To that end, Bannister introduced Greinke to FIP, or Fielding Independent Pitching, the statistic Greinke named Tuesday as his favorite. It is a formula that measures how well a pitcher performed, regardless of his fielders. According to fangraphs.com, Greinke had the best FIP in the majors.

“That’s pretty much how I pitch, to try to keep my FIP as low as possible,” Greinke said.

that is pretty awesome.

Yeah, Bannister is a big SABR guy. Interesting to see he's introducing that to teammates.

Scioscia wins AL MOY and Tracy gets NL

Tracy deserved it, but his award should come with a stickey note on it that says "reminder: Ryan Howard can't hit lefties"

so you would have been okay with him winning over greinke even though zack was clearly better?

i would have been ok with it if erik bedard won, who cares

I REALLY hope Lincecum gets the NL Cy Young, just for the fact I can hear all my Cardinal fan friends bitch like crazy how Carp/Wain got screwed!

Thought I would just chime in to say that the Gold Glove award continues to be an absolute joke.

Compare Ryan Zimmerman to Kevin Kouzmanoff and tell me that Zimmerman deserves the award over Kouz.

The number one stat used to determine whether someone should be worthy of a gold glove is how good they hit. It makes much more sense to me now.

UZR has Kouzmanoff as 10 runs above average at 3B, a full win above average. They have Zimmerman at 20.

If its really true that Keith Law left Carpenter off his Cy Young ballot, he needs his voting rights revoked. Javier Vazquez 2nd? Come on. Also Will Carrol left Carpenter off his ballot and voted Haren 3rd wtf.

Lincecum - 8.2 WAR

Vazquez - 6.6

Haren - 6.1

Wainwright - 5.7

Ubaldo - 5.7

Carpenter - 5.6

WAR isn't precise enough to be accurate to the decimal point(although I believe it's better for pitchers than hitters), but it's not like they're lunatics for voting that way.

And Haren's, for that matter.

So Vazquez has better strikeout numbers and better WAR, and that makes his season better than Carp?

He has better strikeout numbers than Carp, thats it(outside of the WAR TT referenced above). Carpenters numbers are better than Vazquez
