AL Gold Gloves came out today:

C: Joe Mauer

1B: Mark Teixiera

2B: Placido Polanco

SS: Derek Jeter

3B: Evan Longoria

OF: Torii Hunter

OF: Ichiro

OF: Adam Jones

P: Mark Buehrle

Didn't realize Teixiera was that good of a defender. Or is this the Yankees were great during the season so let's give Jeter a GG and one other prominent Yankee.

Rob Neyer made a blog about why the awards are mssed up... said he thought Pedroia should've gotten 2B, Youkilis should've gotten 1B, and Andrus should've gotten SS.

1) Youkilis only played 70 something games at 1B so that's dumb, although his defense at 1B was far superior to Tex so he was half justified in thinking he should get it. According to UZR, if you put faith in it, Kendry Morales led the AL with a 5.0 UZR compared to Tex's -4.1 UZR

2) Pedroia vs. Polanco is sort of a wash

3) Andrus was far better than Jeter, though Jeter actually wasn't that bad this year, surprisingly (probably because of Tex at 1b).

But none of that matters, what matters are the comments from mongoloid Yankee homers in his blog...

wow read the writer's bio... just another red sox crying tht the yankees easily dominate them... nobody could compare to teixera so shut up and if you are going to start bitching about jeter winning it then please give a better example then elvis andrus, im pretty sure the only reason i know who he is is because i live in texas

youkilis didnt even play 1st base all yr u dumb ####..pedroia doesnt deserve #### either.

andrus made 22 errors, voting for him is a joke and pedroia too, cano has better range and arm than that midget, neyer sucks!

Are you blind and stupid ... Jeter had the best fielding percentage out of all shortstops in the AL. Andrus is 18th.

Carl Crawford was another notable snub in the OF and agreed I don't believe Hunter should have won his 9th straight Gold Glove.

That reminds me does anyone know of a place that does a stat for balls caught that a player with an estimated average speed would not get to? I highly doubt it as its a very hard stat to do and is going to subjective to a degree but I've always wanted to see how many more outs are recorded by a guy with Crawford's speed.

Or maybe a place that creates a graph for the estimated feet traveled for each catch made. That would have the same affect.

Speed isn't the only thing that decides how far you travel to make a catch.

Yes I realize that. It would still be interesting to see who has the highest amount of ball caught having to go a long distance to get. A distance that most players couldn't get to consistently.
