torii hunter is definitely not a gold glove outfielder any more.

 

and as usual these went to good offensive players when the good-glove, no-hit guys get ignored.

 

Torii is not a good defender becuase he can't jump into a garbage bag making a spectacular catch against the wall

As memory serves me, he's a fantastic defender when he's running and on the move, but when he has time to field and throw, he makes occasional hiccups.

 

If you put faith in defensive stats, UZR likes him enough to give him an 18.1; the highest of his career.

Except for you know the whole being flexible to stretch and make the catch. He catches the things that he can reach but he doesn't save bad throws.

If you put faith in UZR, Adrian Gonzalez is not a bad pick, but not the best. Lee wins in that regard. He was only one-tenth of a point behind Gonzalez in UZR, but 1.3 points higher than him in UZR/150.

 

But yeah Gonzalez and Lee were the best 1B this year, and Gonzalez winning is not a disservice to the award. It could've gone either way

I'm certainly not saying that he's a good defensive first baseman, but for a guy his size, he's fairly agile.
