I was looking at some of our newspapers online archives of old UCD games against Cal Poly and found out that in 2000, UCD finished No. 44 in Sagarin's rankings despite being a Division II school. I guess Sagarin included UCD and New Haven in his rankings because both teams played a few I-AA schools each year. That team averaged 47.8 points that year, was held under thirty only once (a game they won), under 40 three times and scored over 50 seven times. Their only loss was in the DII semifinals 58-48, a game they led 48-29 entering the fourth quarter.

True. I also don't think they're going to run on our defense and would like to think we can bait Pryor into getting impatient and throwing a pick or two.

I thought the same thing last week and you saw how that worked out

Well I didn't see a minute of that game so I have to claim ignorance but it doesn't look like Pryor did that much. 8-17 for 125. He did throw 2 TD's and avoid the turnovers and break one long run so he was effective.

Still he only sustained one drive of over 50 yards. One TD was only an 8 yard drive and another came on one big play. They had a 47 yard drive for a TD and a 61 yard drive for a FG.

All I can really base my hope on is that he gets impatient and forces something, we get a few turnovers and win the field position battle.

For the record, Charlie Weis is a total douchebag for his treatment of his NT. Talk about throwing a kid under the bus, and all because you're too arrogant to admit that you're not the genius you thought you were.

Anyway, Big 10 fans... if you had to guess today, what do your top 3 Bowl games/teams look like? Rose, Cap One, and Outback? I'm stil seeing Wisconsin slated for the OUtback by some folks, but I thought that was pretty much an Iowa/Penn State lock at this point.

Still up in the air with not much way of predicting.

Winner of Iowa/OSU goes to Rose Bowl most likely. If Iowa wins it probably shakes out like this: Iowa to the Rose, OSU- Cap One, PSU- Outback, Wisconsin- Champ Sports.

If OSU wins you have them to the Rose with Iowa/PSU/Wisconsin all in the mix for the Cap One or Outback. PSU could still lose at Michigan State. Wisconsin plays Michigan and @Northwestern. Iowa finishes with Minnesota.

Iowa has been to the Outback 3 times in the last 6 years including last year. So they might be scared the fans won't travel as well as normal. Wisconsin has also been there twice in the last 5 years plus they have a trip to Hawaii in December so that could reduce travel for a bowl game.

BS. Kid yapped off when he had no reason too. Of course Weis knew they didn't make in-game adjustments quickly enough, but the defense is controlled by Brown and Tenuta. If he admitted that they'd been out-schemed, he'd be tacitly approving of Williams' dumbass comment and throwing his defensive coaches under the bus.

Flames, SIU is the new No. 1 team in TSN's poll.

Interestingly, Montana easily had the most first place votes (64 to SIU's 37 and Nova's 32) but enough people must have voted like me and dropped Montana to 4 and 5. I'd be surprised if anybody had SIU and Nova outside of the top-3 but I'd bet Montana was No. 4 and No. 5 on plenty of ballots.

And in the "this doesn't make sense department" Cal Poly received more votes than UCD despite having a worse overall record (4-5 vs 5-4), worse conference record (1-2 vs. 2-1) and UCD having just defeated Cal Poly 23-10.

Good to see. We're #1 on Any Given Saturday's poll and #2 in the Coaches poll. As long as we take care of business against Missouri St and SEMO, we should have HFA throughout the playoffs.

Weis should have addressed that comment privately with Williams instead of trashing him to the press, though.

BTW, Williams was right. Navy's coach's saying that they basically attacked ND the exact same way they did last year was pretty damning of Tenuta, whose defenses have been awful. The only good defense ND has had since Weis got here was Corwin Brown's in 2007, so naturally he demoted him after one season.

About the only thing I could see happening to prevent that is Montana winning out and No. 5 William and Mary beating both New Hampshire and Richmond - both top-10 teams - and having the pollsters jump them up, which would probably be deserved if they pulled that off. But yeah, you guys are in great shape right now for a top-2 seed and probably have a guaranteed top-4 seed at this point which would mean two byes.

And it's not even that he said they attacked them the same way, but that they attacked ND's prior year game plan. In other words, "we don't think they'll adjust at all and will try to do the exact same thing they did last year." And, for the 2nd time in 3 years, it worked.

When you're a kid who knows that the talent around you is much better than the talent across the line from you, I can imagine the frustration you must feel.

and if you can't stop yourself from venting that frustration to the press, you're not going to last long at nd (and lots of places, I imagine). besides the defense gave up 21 points, so they didn't exactly lose the game alone. And there were numerous missed assignments where players were in position and just ignored their assignment to attack the football. That will kill you against navy.

ND was too slow to fix the scheme, but they were still in a position to win. Williams was completely out of line for his comment. I have no problem with Weis calling him out for that. I'm certain they had a 1-1 to discuss it and Williams hopefully learned from it.

I'm probably just crazy and homerific but I'm strangely optimistic about this Ohio State game. I watched some of the Northwestern game last night and Vandenberg wasn't nearly as bad as I thought he was in the stadium Saturday. He obviously has a strong arm, decent mobility, made some good decisions and wasn't missing by that much most of the time.

A week of practice with the 1's will do him a lot of good. Unfortunately he's facing a much tougher defense in a really tough place to play. I think our defense plays out of their mind and we win some kind of 13-10 type game.

OSU's defense is better than advertised. I thought the PSU/OSU game would be close, but I didn't think PSU's offense would be made to look so bad (and Clark, with all due respect, is a lot better than Vandenberg). You also have a backup QB going into a hostile stadium with the Rose Bowl on the line.

Good luck to Iowa, but it's not looking good for you...

Oh I understand it's a longshot.

In regards to their defense, it's also the same unit that gave up over 360 yards to Wisconsin at home and 365 yards along with 26 points to Purdue. Iowa's defense hasn't allowed that many yards all year. I think the two defenses are about equal and Iowa's may be better. Combine that with OSU's offensive struggles and I think it's a low-scoring, close game unless Iowa sets them up. Win the turnover battle and field position game and I don't think we need a lot from Vandenberg.

I'm not saying Williams should have said what he did, but Weis has no excuse for responding the way he did. I agree with whoever said it should have been handled in private.

I can't wait to see how this all plays out on the recruiting trail, provided Charlie still has a job in January.

Looking at the rankings, I found it interesting that there are more undefeated I-A teams (6) than there are one-loss teams (5). Even if you limit it to BCS teams it's still 4-3.
