Tell me why he sucks and why Jim Hendry would continue to be the worst GM in the history of GM's if the Cubs signed Iwamura to play 2B and bat in the 1 hole.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand go!

Actually I wouldn't mind the signing if we traded Milton for him and Burrell. Only if we could move Burrell to some other team. I think with him and Baker at 2nd would be better than anything we had last year

He's the left handed Asian slightly better version of Ryan Theriot. Past his prime, peaked at 28. Unsuccesful base stealer.

Check the Bradley thread, posted a article on a rays blog saying that Iwamura is close to being traded somewhere that is not the dodgers or Cubs. Its a surprise team, some speculate the twins since they just cleared a space in their roster.

He's the asian Mark Derosa.

He's gritty and can play multiple positions. Also he has no power.

So hes more like the asian Kaz Matsui.

and I thought that trades couldnt be made until midnight after the end of the WS. Was this a waiver deal or something?

Iwamura to the Pirates

Link

The Pirates and Rays have reached agreement on a trade that will send second baseman Akinori Iwamura to Pittsburgh for right-hander Jesse Chavez, multiple major-league sources told FOXSports.com on Tuesday afternoon.

Chavez looks like a decent reliever who had some control issues in the minors.

No Kaz Matsui is the asian Aaron Miles.

Iwamura is a mediocrity but he's at least a league average performer at 2B who can also play 3B in a pinch.

I think that it's just an agreement among owners and Selig to minimize other baseball news so that the World Series gets maximum coverage.

It makes perfect sense to trade for a more expensive version of Delwyn Young. Word on the street is that the Pirates are eyeing Ankiel, as well. Here's to another 18 years of losing.

First, Delwyn Young. He's not an everyday player, especially @ 2b. His defense is not there, and his batting average took a nose dive once he became an everyday player. He's good off the bench.

Ankiel - They'll kick the tires, but they won't overpay.

This is a very un-Pirate like move.

Very true -

We traded a rookie making minimum for a guy making 10x more who we might only keep for a year.

I don't think this is a terrible pickup for the Pirates, it gives them a solid defensive 2B and can allow them to move Mccuchen to the 3/4 spot if they want. It also gives the team, who is developing guys at a lot of other positions, a position they don't have to worry about. He could also be a decent trade chip at the deadline and with a good year could be a type B and maybe net them a supplemental pick.

Also to make that news on travel days.

Is Alvarez even close to ready?

Close, yes. He has little shot to break spring training with the major league club. And, for that matter, he still needs to make the Indy team (our AAA)

Having said that, if he starts the year @ Indy and plays like he did the last two months @ Altoona (AA), he'll be up June 15th, or so, or however long they feel then need to wait to keep him from being a Super 2.

this is fine, he's got solid OBP ability, can play a number of positions and is a solid defender. really for the money he's fine, and he'll probably be a type B free agent after this year and maybe the pirates get an extra pick or something.

the part that doesn't make sense is that the pirates are going to lose anyway, so why not lose while paying delwyn young less money to play bad defense.

We have some pride.

The reality is, Delwyn Young is not an everyday major league 2B. OK, this argument could be made about some other guys on the team too. But, allegedly, we have guys in the minors who realistically could make a push for those jobs this year. We have absolutely no one for the middle infield with more than a remote chance of being an everyday player this year.
